OFFICER ELECTIONS
As the school year wraps up, it's time to think about next year! While we don't yet know what the school year will look like, we do know that we'll have a talented and dedicated PTA executive board ready to support our students, families and teachers. The nominating committee has assembled a slate of candidates for the executive board for the 2020-2021 school year. They are as follows:
President: Comica Shaw
Vice President, Membership: Jen Nelson
Vice President, Fundraising: Kate Bender
Secretary: Andi Russell
Treasurer: Jessica Hutton
Beginning this year, our executive board also added four at-large positions. These four people provide advice and support to the president and other members of the executive board. They may also help coordinate committee activities and serve as liaisons between the general membership and the executive board. These four positions are not included on the slate assembled by the nominating committee. If you would like to nominate yourself or someone else to one of these four at-large positions, please email borderstarpta@gmail.com and include "at-large" in the subject line. Nominations should be made by Friday, May 22.
PTA members will be invited to vote on the slate of candidates in the coming weeks. While our bylaws do not allow for virtual voting, we feel it's critical to have the transition of officer duties occur over the summer, and the new slate of officers ready to go at the start of our fiscal year, August 1. For that reason, the yes/no election on the slate of candidates will be provisional. The slate will be ratified by traditional voting methods during the first PTA meeting of the school year in the fall.
We will determine a method for voting on at large members once we know how many candidates we have. The election for at-large members will be separate from the election of the other executive board officers.

COMMITTEE LEADERSHIP
We are looking for chairs and co-chairs for several committees for next year. These positions are filled on a volunteer basis--no elections are needed. Current PTA members will be reaching out to ask people to volunteer for some positions, but if you have interest in helping with any of our committees, or would just like to learn more about our volunteer needs, email borderstarpta@gmail.com and include "committees" in the subject line.

YEARBOOKS
For those of you who have ordered yearbooks, we have them in! The first opportunity to pick one up will be at the Border Star Garden this Sunday between 1:30 and 3:30. If you didn't order one but would like one, we have several extra copies that can be purchased at the same place and time. The price will be $20 per copy. Cash or check will be accepted. Checks should be made out to Border Star Montessori. (The school pays for yearbooks, not the PTA.)
For those who can't make it to the school on Sunday for pick-up, we'll make arrangements for distribution at a future date.

GARDEN
Border Star Families are welcome to harvest from the Border Star Schoolyard Garden. Kale, green onions, lettuce, spinach, radishes, cilantro, and parsley are ready to go! Easiest way to harvest is to bring a scissors and cut the outermost leaves. Leave the plant and it will keep growing. Gently pull out the green onions and radishes. Email Debora if you would like help out in the garden: deboraFerr2003@yahoo.com

FUNDRAISING
Unfortunately, we were unable to hold our favorite and most lucrative fundraiser, Dragon Night, this year. In addition, our other major annual fundraiser, the Brookside Art Annual parking, has been postponed indefinitely. While our fundraising committee is hard at working looking for alternative ways to raise funds for next school year, we'd like to invite our families to consider making a donation directly to the PTA to commemorate the ending of this school year. We know many families are struggling right now, and we do not want to increase the burden for anyone during a difficult time. We have no specific goal in mind, but wanted to ask those who are able to contribute at this time to consider donating what you would have otherwise spent at Dragon Night on tickets, drinks, games, and silent auction items. The PTA website is always open for donations--just scroll down on the main page (borderstartpta.org) to donate. Thank you!
