An Action Packed Mid-year Update!

Adoptable Cats

Did you know we started a rescue in 2019?

Super Senior Cat Sanctuary helps cats age 14 and older in Ontario who are at risk of euthanasia. Our first two kitties came to us when their person died. Marvin age 14, and Samantha age 18 got adopted together by a wonderful family.

We now have two kitties, Ricky and Lucy also rescued from euthanasia. Their family said Ricky and Lucy were having behavioural issues but none have been found in their foster home. They are both 14 years old and adore people! Their adoption profiles are available on our website and petfinder.com. Plus you'll even find some super cute videos of them!

Know someone who may be interested in Ricky & Lucy or future Super Seniors? An adoption application can be filled out any time and approved applications can join out waitlist for available cats! So even if Ricky and Lucy aren't the best fit, we could have another kitty in the future who would be purrrfect!

We receive multiple requests each month for senior cats in need but only have so many resources. If you're interested in making a donation, check out our donation page and indicate that it's for Super Senior Cat Sanctuary. Thank you!

Covid 19 and Fundraising

Covid 19 has had many cascading effects in the animal world.

For many people living month to month, Cover 19 has made a terrible impact on their lives. At the beginning pet food was even difficult to find as people went to stores and cleared them out. Many people receiving disability support do not have transportation and may be immunocompromised.

We received 40 requests for assistance within a 24 hour period and helped many pets with food and bedding supplies. Luckily there are some great programs and organizations also stepping up across the province and we made referrals for families outside of our volunteer zones. We were thrilled to receive volunteer assistance to pick up and drop off food to porches across Southern Ontario.

Covid 19 has also effected people experiencing precarity, and organizations that offer temporary foster care are inundated with requests. Domestic violence has increased and people who are homeless or at risk of losing their housing are even more vulnerable.

We would like to continue providing assistance whenever needed to keep pets in their loving homes. With this thought in mind we have brainstormed ways to fundraise online (as many of our upcoming fundraisers have been cancelled). For a full list, go to our website.

1. Online shopping? Use FlipGive and Second Hope Circle receives a small percentage of the sale at no cost to you.

2. Have you adopted a new cat to keep you company at home? Check out Purrplan, a pet insurance company made specifically for cats. Using our code you'll receive your first month free and Second hope Circle will get $10. Plus you can choose us as your fav charity and we'll receive 75 cents per month. We actually use this company for the cats at Super Senior Cat Sanctuary and have nothing but good things to say about it!

3. Become a monthly donor for as little as $1 a month and enjoy behind the scenes footage, plus get updates before anyone else! Patreon is a great platform that supports artists and nonprofits!

4. ...and if you sign up to become a monthly donor or make a one time donation of $15 or more, we'll make a Story Time video and include a shout out! Story Time at the Sanctuary is a new fundraiser where volunteers read aloud books about animals, joined by cats at Super Senior Cat Sanctuary. Our first video is now live and we can't wait to make more with your support!

5. Want to make sure you get a tax receipt? We can't issue tax receipts (yet) as we are a nonprofit organization (not a charity). However with a new program through the Petfinder Foundation, you can make a donation to Second Hope Circle and receive a tax receipt through Petfinder! The program starts next week. All you need to do is go visit Ricky or Lucy on Petfinder, click 'sponsor' and it will walk you through the process.

6. Need a pet bed or toys for your little family member? We have a new Facebook group highlighting all of the handmade items we have for sale. A variety of pet beds, cat and dog toys and bandanas. Plus we make rat hammocks, cubes and can do custom orders! All proceeds support Second Hope Circle.

2020 so far...

Over the past year we have;

Provided food and supplies to 22 animals across Ontario and referred 100s more to local support programs.

Received a grant from the Don Cherry Foundation, thank you!

Found homes for our first two Super seniors and took in two more cats.

Plus made referrals for 10 other cats so they could find safety

Signed up two high school co-op students who are working on some awesome projects. An educational colouring book and a map of pet friendly transit across the province!

Ran a successful bottle drive (we continue to receive requests for empties pick up, this program will start up again after COVID risks have lessened).
Thanks for reading!

Did you know Second Hope Circle has three accounts to follow for amazing content? Our main account @secondhopecircle highlights everything happening on a day to day basis. Our @fosteringseniorpets account gives followers a behind the scenes look at pet foster care and answers their questions. @Superseniorcatsanctuary promotes adoptable and long term residents of the sanctuary.

Our Goals for the rest of 2020

1. Start the process for charitable status so that we will be able to access more grants and funding opportunities. (and give out tax receipts!)

2. Gain liability insurance so that we can pilot a temporary foster care program and expand Super Senior Cat Sanctuary.

4. Find a loving adoptive home for Lucy and Ricky (pictured above).

5. Continue to provide referral, financial assistance and behavioural consultations to people experiencing poverty and precarity with their pets. Especially during this difficult time.

6. Host online fundraisers as alternatives to the events that have been cancelled due to Covid 19. Check out our Story Time fundraiser
