MONTH OF MARY
The month of May is dedicated in a special way to Mary, the Mother of God.  During this time of global uncertainty and pandemic, you are encouraged to rediscover the beauty of praying the Rosary at home, whether individually or as a family.  Let us pray to Our Blessed Mother for health in mind and body, and for patient endurance in time of suffering.

OUR VIRTUE FOCUS FOR THE MONTH OF MAY – ACCEPTANCE
During the month of May we will focus on the virtue of acceptance. The virtue of ACCEPTANCE means we accept ourselves and others just the way we are.  God created all of us in His image, and God does not make mistakes.  Being part of God’s family means that we love and welcome everyone just the way Jesus did.  Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where it is easier to follow the crowd than to stand up for what we know is right.  However, Jesus wants us to accept everyone even when it is hard.

An accepting person…
† sees the positive traits in all people even if she/he disagrees with them
† is friendly and open to all God’s people, regardless of age, beliefs, gender, culture or ability
† avoids judging or stereotyping others
† understands that there may be more than one way to do things
† sticks up for the “underdog”.

“If one member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is honoured, all rejoice together with it. Now you are the body of Christ and individually a member of it”. -- 1 Cor. 12:26-27

FRIDAY MASS
Please join us for the Friday school Mass tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. The link to the Mass can be found by clicking http://stmichaelsparish.ca/.  Hymns can be found on the school website.
At the end of Mass, Father Rossi prays the Prayer for Spiritual Communion which we encourage you to pray at home.

My Jesus, I believe that You are in the Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I long for You in my soul.
Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
As though You have already come, I embrace You and unite myself entirely to You;
never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen

CONGRATULATIONS TO FATHER ROSSI
Father Rossi celebrated his 51st anniversary of priestly ordination last week!  We thank Father Rossi for answering God’s call to the priesthood and for his dedicated service to God and the Church.  Father Rossi is a wonderful example of someone who said “yes” to God and who lives his life trying to love and serve all of God’s people.
May God continue to bless Father Rossi and grant him many more happy years at St. Michael’s as our beloved Pastor.

UPDATE ON POSSIBLE SCHOOL RE-OPENING
As yet, we have nothing definitive to relay to you as to when school might re-open on a part time basis for students.  Schools are waiting for more detailed information on the proposed phased-in approach to resuming in-class instruction including Operating Standards and Guidelines for K-12 Schools, Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools from the Provincial Health Officer and Safety Plans and Standards which are aligned with WorksafeBC.
Schools will also be required to prepare a Return to In-Class Instruction Plan prior to staff returning and initiating Stage 3 which includes in-class learning for students in Kindergarten to Gr. 5 on a part-time basis and access to in-class learning as needed for Grades 6-12.
We hope to receive some details this week and will inform you as soon as anything concrete is known.
In the meanwhile, our teachers will continue with online distance learning.

THANK YOU
We thank all those families that were able to come to the heart-warming Drive Thru last Thursday evening!  It was wonderful to see so many of you, and we thank you for the beautiful posters you made, which we’ve displayed in the school windows.  Also thank you for the abundance of non-perishable food items for Father Rossi’s Food Bank.  Mrs. Bird is still counting the money the children raised for the Archdiocesan seminarians through the Lenten Mite Box project, and we will report the amount next week.
We thank the PEC for organizing the Drive Thru event.  The staff is most appreciative!

THANK YOU TO ALL OUR STUDENTS
During last Thursday’s Drive Thru, students also dropped off beautiful cards for our front-line health care workers.  We have received the following message.
“On behalf of St. Vincent’s Langara, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all the students who sent their lovely cards to us. It really boosts our confidence during this time of uncertainty. We have posted the cards on our bulletin board and by the walls so we will be reminded of the kind words that you sent us. Again, thank you!”

ODYSSEY—WORLD FINALS
Hats off and congratulations to Joshua Lai (Gr. 6) and Emma Lai (Gr. 5) who are competing in the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals next week which will be held virtually this year.  We thank Joshua and Emma for all their hard work, dedication, and commitment to Odyssey and wish them the best of luck!
