Hope you are staying safe and well. This quarantine experience has been quite an eye-opener for me, mostly observing myself.

  • How we're doing: While Ben and I have lots of tools on how to deal with our emotions both from the spiritual and psychological perspective, that doesn't exempt us from feeling those negative emotions. We share some of our experience in a podcast episode (linked below). Also, I've been deep cleaning obsessively (oven, windows, etc).

  • Work: Basically all my work events for 2020 at Unity have been cancelled, postponed, or being transitioned to a virtual experience format. I've been dealing with the grief of that and the change in my work life and environment working from home. Even though I know it's temporary and I'm grateful I have my job, it's been a hard adjustment.

My attention has been redirected to outreach: getting a web page prepped with Unity's communication team, calling and emailing organizations offering free inspirational booklets, and getting everything ready for the launch of Unity's newest outreach booklet, "Worthy: LGBTQ Stories of Overcoming Rejection and Religion to Find Truth." I share a short excerpt below for inspiration.

  • Quarantine B'day! Finally, I just celebrated a surprisingly lovely quarantine birthday with friends via Zoom. Grateful for all my close girlfriends and for my husband Ben who helped set it up.

Sending you comfort and love.

Warmly,
Cheri

INSPIRATION

Worthy
We humans have set up so many arbitrary reasons to measure ourselves or others against. At the end of the day, we all want to feel seen, accepted, and loved. Even in the most self-described loving spiritual communities, I've seen many people fall into the trap of judging others and themselves as "less than" or unworthy. We all need to be reminded sometimes that no matter who you are or how you express yourself, you are worthy... Worthy to be here, to take up space, to share your voice and live authentically.

Over the past 5 months, I have been blessed to support the creation and launch of this inspirational booklet, offering spiritual support from LGBTQ writers who overcame years of rejection to see themselves as dynamic expressions of God.

For inspiration this month, I wanted to share an excerpt written by a Trans (Two-Spirit) minister that particularly touched me:

I have learned many things since the day she disappeared, things I wish I had known and could have shared with her when she was so frightened.

I would tell her not to worry about finding someone who would love her because in the end it would all be okay.

I would tell her not to worry about being accepted by others because the people who counted would continue to show unconditional love, even in the face of adversity.

I would tell her just how much of a gift it is to be two-spirited, to be able to see the world through this wonderful lens.

I would tell her what a privilege it is to exist within a community that bonds together even when others attempt to break it apart.

I would tell her she is loved and divine, regardless of what others may say.

I would tell her about the wonderful, joyous freedom that awaits at the end of that dark tunnel.

Most of all, I would tell her quite simply to live her truth, to live life in the most authentic way possible. For it is through authenticity that we become strong.

The day she disappeared was the day I was born.
