Club guidelines for the return to swimming activity

Last Friday 8 May, the National Cabinet announced a national three-step plan to re-open a COVID-safe Australia. For several weeks, Swimming NSW has been working in collaboration with Swimming Australia, State/Territory associations and ASCTA, along with the AIS, Sport Australia, and Federal and State Governments on a plan for clubs and swimmers to safely return to swimming activity once restrictions have eased. Yesterday we sent a communication to all club administrators on the Swimming Australia - National Guidelines for Restarting Club Environments. This email contains important information to help clubs prepare for the resumption of swimming activity.

Remember, you can catch up with all the latest government advice and health recommendations via our dedicated COVID-19: SNSW advice page, which is regularly updated with tips, advice and information to help clubs navigate this challenging time. We remind our clubs and members to comply with the government's social distancing and isolation measures to help reduce the spread of the virus and to keep us all safe.

We encourage our members to reach out at any time they need support.
You can also contact our mental health partner, ReachOut Australia, for additional support throughout this time.

Office of Sport resources for clubs

The Office of Sport has developed a resource library that brings together resources from a variety of expert providers and official organisations to help support your sporting organisation. It doesn’t matter your size, if you employ people or not, there will be something here that can help you.

The Office of Sport has also compiled an overview of financial and stimulus measures that may be available to all types of NSW sport and recreation organisations and businesses as a result of the impact of COVID-19 public health measures on their organisations.

Changes to Fair Trading rules regarding AGM extensions

NSW Fair Trading has updated its rules around holding AGMs. To assist incorporated associations in the changing circumstances resulting from COVID-19 restrictions, associations are no longer formally required to apply for an extension of time to hold 2020 annual general meetings by lodging the form: A11 - Application for extension of time for holding annual general meeting. Associations may conduct their AGM when restrictions are lifted or may conduct the 2020 AGM, for the purpose of presenting the financial information to members, in conjunction with the 2021 AGM.

You can find more COVID-19-related information on their website.

Can you help bring Olly the Octopus to life?

What if we could eliminate manual timekeeping... forever?
With your help it's possible.

Swimming NSW, in partnership with Ben Ramsden from Swim.Rocks, is on the lookout for innovators, entrepreneurs, technological whizzes, friends or otherwise interested parties to help us develop a fully automated timekeeping solution. In 2020, the technology exists to make this happen. If you know of, or are, an innovator, entrepreneur, technological whiz, or otherwise interested party, we urge you to register on the Swim.Rocks website and get involved. You can also help by spreading the word. Even if you don’t directly know of anyone who can help, your voice might reach the right people in your extended network. Help us get the word out.

Swim Central tips for clubs
  • In order for clubs to receive payments, and for their members to receive refunds where relevant, every club need to ensure the following is complete:
    • The club acquires an ABN number (easy steps to do so are found here).
    • The club lists the ABN within the Entity contact information in Swim Central.
    • The club chooses a Club Contact. This contact can be anybody on the committee (i.e. with access to the Entity on Swim Central).

Their first name, last name and DOB must match exactly with the Identity documents uploaded (here is how to upload the ID and correctly match everything). It is super important for clubs to read through this, because you may have attempted ID upload in the past, however it may not have been uploaded correctly.

Now is the BEST time to ensure all of these details are up to date, to ensure no problems when Swimming starts up again!

  • COMING SOON – Online Relay Entry updates in Swim Central (we’re in testing phase with Swimming Australia now!)
