Dear Covenant friends and family,
As much as I appreciate the rich metaphorical and symbolic language in the Gospel of John, its grammatical construction can be circuitous and dense. The 14th chapter of John, a portion of what is called “the Farewell Discourse”, can feel like a “Whose on First” routine to me. I want to hear and take in all of Jesus’ last minute instructions but sometimes the words get in the way. But just when I feel like I might be thoroughly lost, the clear and resonant promise of God’s guidance and provision reorients me. And for that, I give thanks!
