It's Wed-nes-day!

Wednesday is known as being halfway through the work week, and the one day that really can't be sounded out to figure out how it is spelled, or how it is pronounced.

Speaking of Rube Goldberg machines*... (ok, I was speaking of them in a newsletter from a month or so ago...) You have to check out this video. One of our Library Trustees, Steve Simons, sent it to me and it is a miracle of physics, patience, and way too much time on the hands.

It will take a few minutes to watch it (it's long for a video) but it's probably about 100,000 fewer minutes than it took to make the video work!

A Collection from Marcia!

"This is my collection of magnets as mementos from different places we have visited and also some are gifts from friends and relatives.  They bring back many fond memories."
The New Normal Town Meeting??
Needham moves its Annual Town Meeting outdoors
(John Laidler, Globe Correspondent, 5/26/20)

Neeham’s Annual Town Meeting will take place outdoors this year due to COVID-19.

The Select Board recently voted to make the Memorial Park parking lot the site of the meeting, set for June 8 at 5 p.m., with rain dates June 10 and 11.

Officials said the new venue is intended to allow Town Meeting to “conduct its business in the safest and most efficient way possible during the current global pandemic.”

The decision came after Town Meeting members were surveyed on their preferences regarding the meeting logistics.

“There is no doubt this will be a unique Town Meeting for all of us and will require significant cooperation, flexibility and patience," officials said in the announcement, sent to Town Meeting members and posted on the town website. "We also know that there are some members who will be unable to participate and for that we are sorry. We know you are committed to your important role, but health must come first.”

OR This New Normal Town Meeting??
Our own Sam suggested that towns consider investing in low-power FM speakers, gather voters in a big field in their cars, and have a Town Meeting drive-in.

I think it is brilliant! Big screen for Town presentations, social distancing but still can hear those speaking... Maybe honking for "voice" votes?

Let me know what you think!

One More Simulation...
I know you probably feel like you've seen a hundred simulations of virus transmission at this point - me too! This one came up at an online seminar today though and I was glad I looked at one more.

As you scroll down, you don't only see visualizations of how (and how far) aerosols can travel, but also accompanying information about why masks, in addition to social distancing, are recommended.
