Newsletter June 2020

Good morning everyone,

Welcome to June, and for us...summer holidays!!!  The end of school did not happen in the way everyone expected, but time is oblivious and marches on and here we are :-)

June brings us Father’s Day...a day to celebrate fathers and father figures like carers or grandfathers.  Of course Mother’s Day has been celebrated for hundreds of years, but, where did Father’s Day come from?  The most likely origin is that it started with a woman called Sonora Louise Smart in Washington.  Following her mothers death in childbirth with her 5th sibling, her dad brought up the family.  In 1909, Sonora heard a speech in church about Mother's Day and thought dads should also be celebrated.  A number of local clergymen accepted the idea and it's considered that the 19th of June 1910 was the first unofficial Father's Day.

Dads are a great aren’t they!!  Perhaps they cheer you up if your having a bad day, or can cook you a yummy meal!  Whatever you decide to do with Dad this month...make sure he knows he’s appreciated!! The latest and greatest comes from a wonderful family and of course Dad who was celebrating bring a Dad for the third time!!  You can’t have too much of a good thing!

Little note...in switching website providers, I have lost my connections to all historical newsletters webpages...all 78 of them...can you believe this is number 79!!! I will be setting that up this month and hopefully have it available to you all again by July!

As always, thanks for reading and I wish you all a very enjoyable June!  Stay safe and enjoy the newsletter!

Latest and Greatest - Father's Day

Sometimes, the most chaotic families result in the most moving images!!  I remember when our kids were very young...it was a crazy fun and exhausting time.  From trying to get everyone out the door to clearing up the constant mess to bath, supper and bedtime and any other routines that involved small people!

When I took photographs for this wonderful family of 5 it really took me back...it’s a challenge in the moment, but it’s over in an instant and if you don’t grab them and enjoy them...you’ll almost certainly wish that you did!

Enjoy the small selection of photos...of course I had to add the wonderful one with Dad and the new baby!

For the Photographer in You -  Backyard Photography Challenge!

Quarantine has been a great opportunity for some to learn a new skill or dedicate time to polishing an old one!!  I am always looking for inspiring ways to polish my photography, learn new techniques and work on composition and technical options!  Digital cameras get smarter and smarter, but it is still the photographer that controls the tools and it’s essential to keep working on the basics.

This 12 day backyard challenge run by the Outdoor Photography School has a great list of challenges.  Join me over the next 12 days to work through each of them.  I will be posting on instagram daily and would love to see your efforts as well!

Below is there first challenge and a few pictures from my day one of the challenge!!!

Little Ditty About My Own Camera Fun - Mount Diablo Vehicle Free

Cycling Diablo mountain right now is such a treat!!! With no cars allowed, since all car parks are closed, there is only the occasional state parks car!  I am not one for riding bikes on the road much, but riding on Mount Diablo is a must right now if you like scenery and a considerable bit of uphill of course :-)

Below are some of the pictures I took on the way!  It’s certainly a lot easier on the way down than up!!

I know the park roads will be open again in the future, but perhaps the park will have a number of road closed days in the year so that locals can continue to enjoy the vehicle free experience now and then!...Just a thought?
