Today's Newsletter is Brought to You By

the letters W, M, and L and the number 2020.

Do you recognize that opening? If you are the parent of a Gen X-er, or a member of Gen X yourself, you probably will.

Each episode of Sesame Street was "sponsored" by two letters and a number. Our newsletter is sponsored by three letters for Wiggin Memorial Library (pretty clever, right?) and the only number that doesn't seem to be changing every day: 2020

There are plenty of cartoons and memes out there picking on year 2020, and it's pretty understandable why. Still, I don't blame everything on 2020. After all, the virus is called COVID-19 because it became known/recognized in 2019. And, I'm very grateful to have 2020 technology and medical knowledge in our world instead of 1918's. Even if our knowledge hasn't figured everything out yet, our hospitals and communities have better sanitation, treatments, and PPE.

We wouldn't be sending these out if we weren't the WML, and we wouldn't have the technology to do it if it weren't 2020 (as opposed to 1918, or even 1969 when Sesame Street launched).

Karen's Collection!

"This tin canister collection actually belonged to my grandparents.  When my own parents where cleaning out my mothers childhood home in the late 80s in Medford, MA these were found in their attic. I think they just ended up there for no reason at all. I liked them and at the time I decided to keep them. To this day they have traveled with me to New Hampshire and are now on display in our family room."

I like these graphs from NHPR. They are updated as the numbers change - when I looked just now the numbers were as of 5/26. Also, each graph has a little bit of context included - notes about how to read it, what it is based on, why that statistic is considered useful.
There is also a list of COVID cases by community -- both "active" and "total."
