Joe Biden Problems Part 1
Joe Biden Problems Part 2

Hi friends,

Today, we're outraged for so many reasons: At the death of George Floyd, Breona Taylor and so many other unarmed black people who aren't in today's headlines. At the persistence of police brutality. At the treatment of protestors. At white complacency. We're donating what we can, calling representatives and encouraging the people we know to do the same.

Wishing you so much love,
Team CYG

P.S. We wrote most of this newsletter before the events of the last few days. If the moments of levity don't speak to you, feel free to scroll past.

USE YOUR VOICE AND $$$
Here's how to take action for Breona Taylor.

BESTIES OF THE MONTH

High school besties Mya Abdelwahab and Nicole Soret successfully pressured the New York City Department of Education to start distributing menstrual products at 211 school meal hubs during the pandemic. Contribute to their GoFundMe to get supplies to those who won't be served by the DOE sites.

NEW MERCH ALERT

We've got a new See You On The Internet long-sleeve tee (Cheetos, La Croix and pipe sadly not included). Mad credit to our photographer Debbie Carlos who truly outdid herself with this shot.

The infamous Scam is Structural hat is also back in stock and we still have a few There is No Ethical Consumption Under Capitalism tote bags

20% of ShopCYG sales in June will be donated to the National Domestic Workers Alliance Coronavirus Care Fund, which might make you feel a little better about this particular bit of consumption.

WE'RE OBSESSED
Ann is digging:
  • This shredded carrot tahini salad, which has been the perfect make-ahead side dish accompanying many of my lunches lately.
  • Using the Screen Time settings on my iPhone to limit my access to all apps after 9 p.m. I can still get in there if I need to, but it really helps me to see all of the apps grayed out every time I pick up my phone. It's a reminder that I'd rather be reading a book, and it's helped me stop the perpetual scrolling.

Amina is really into:
  • Donating to Partners in Health, an amazing organization that works to save lives on four continents. Their COVID relief efforts mean the world to me right now because they're helping coordinate care for my dad.
  • Getting new sheets for summer. I am very partial to Brooklinen (and they have sponsored my Instagram feed) but it really doesn't matter. Get the crisp sheets you love and dress your bed for summer. Makes such a difference with the heat.

Laura is feeling:
Assistant producer Jordan is:
  • Needle punching, which is a great craft project for beginners. In no way do I consider myself crafty, but I got this great starter kit (more available on Etsy!).
  • Reading From Here to Eternity by former CYG guest Caitlin Doughty. In this time of overwhelming grief, I'm finding it comforting to read about death rituals from cultures around the world.
  • Listening to Brene Brown's podcast: Unlocking Us, and also reading her book Gifts of Imperfection. Turns out quarantine is a great time to sit with your feelings...
  • Watching some great queer content on Netflix, like Feel Good and A Secret Love

Merch maven Carly's newest obsession / coping mechanism / merch assistant is her new pup Charlie 😍😍😍:

GLAMOUR SHOTS
Vanity Fair called CYG "A comforting way to feel like you’re in the company of old friends." Ann joined chef Bryant Terry and musician Thao Nguyen for Pop-Up Magazine's virtual dinner party. Big Friendship is among People's recs for summer reads. And Finding Fred, a podcast Jordan produced with Transmitter Media, was nominated for a Peabody Award 👏🏽👏🏿👏

THE TEASE
Next month we'll kick off our Summer of Friendship, with a series of episodes all about making, deepening, and sustaining friendships, featuring several of the smart people Ann and Amina interviewed for Big Friendship (preorder now!) and lots of stories about their own relationship.
