ITI Timspec Speaks - June 8, 2020
As we write this, we find ourselves transitioning to alert level 1. We hope that the economic downturn and Covid-19 crisis will be short and we will see a recovery soon.
Here at ITI Timspec, we are happy to be back to work and functioning as normal. We have some new and exciting environmentally friendly products added to our product list as well as some excellent local timber options for various outdoor applications.
|
|
Today we are seeing a move to more sustainably sourced tropical hardwoods, due to their durability, hard-wearing benefits and a desire to use timber that does not require chemical treatment.
At ITI Timspec, we continue to offer a cost effective, NZ grown and managed timber product option. Amazon and African tropical hardwoods can be sourced with FSC® credentials but they often cannot compete with a local choice on price and consistency. There are numerous imported timber products available, for example, Vitex, from The Solomon Islands is another durable option. However, we prefer to choose and promote local timber wherever we can. At ITI Timspec, we continue to offer a cost effective, NZ grown and managed timber product option.

Outdoor Seating
Saligna
As the original timber specialists, ITI Timspec have been supplying a variety of high performance and hard-wearing timber species for numerous applications, including outdoor seating and public spaces.
We have supplied NZ grown Saligna for outdoor seating in NZ for over 20 years. Saligna also known as Sydney Blue Gum, is grown in northern parts of NZ but was originally native to Eastern Australia. It is a moderately durable hardwood and has proven ideal for outdoor seating due to its attractive colour, grain feature and its performance characteristics. We harvest and mill the timber in Northland, dry it in Auckland and finally process the timber locally as well. Providing jobs in the local industry, this helps NZ economy and is being used by number of manufacturers throughout the country and is more relevant in the post Covid-19 situation today.
