IBM partnership brings latest hardware to UQ for research
As part of an ongoing collaboration, IBM has recently provided the University of Queensland with a number of novel hardware platforms for experimentation and evaluation.
IBM will install a new ultra-dense storage system that can hold more than 2 PB of data; two HPC nodes based on the US Department of Energy’s Summit supercomputer; and the ESS 3000—an all-flash memory-based device capable of very high-performance input/output.

Tips for researchers to make the most of online training
RCC staff who organise and deliver online training have provided some tips for researchers to get the most out of the format.
With many UQ researchers working from home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, RCC moved its training online, including its monthly ‘Introduction to HPC’ workshops, new weekly Virtual HPC User Support (vHPC) sessions, and UQ’s weekly Hacky Hour.

Dr Nick Hamilton, who organises UQ’s Hacky Hour, and Dr David Green, who leads both the HPC workshops and vHPC sessions, have outlined what they’d like researchers to know before they join in online. This includes what to do for the best audio quality, what to have prepared and what to do if you have connection issues.

Research Data Management at UQ
UQRDM update
UQRDM is there to support you manage your research data more effectively. You will find new features to streamline your project records, including:
- Filter all your project records by Project Lead or Project Owner — to focus on just your key projects
- Delete incomplete project records — streamlines your dashboard by removing unnecessary records.
We’ve also updated our guidance to support HDRs, many of whom are attempting to upload HDR Progress Reports from home.
Help with research data management is also available by contacting: data@library.uq.edu.au.
