Introducing SmartQ - opening Thame Town Centre Safely

SmartQ is a take-a-ticket app for safer, smarter queuing – helping retailers better manage shorter physical queues while improving social distancing, developed by Adactus who are based in Thame. Since their very earliest discussions about a safer and fairer queue system, they have been committed to supporting the local community by making SmartQ available to Thame businesses free of charge. Businesses are now preparing to emerge from lockdown and Thame Town Council has chosen to work with Adactus to enable the roll out of this App across the town centre.

Adactus want to talk to all Thame companies who may have a challenge with queues. If you have or anticipate long queues at certain times, SmartQ can help manage customers expectations and allow them to wait safely until you are ready for them. For those with smaller shop frontages, even a queue of 3 or 4 can start to block pavements and get mixed up with next door’s queue – SmartQ allows customers to be in your queue without being physically present until you’re ready for them.

Key features include:

•Consumers can ‘take a ticket’ via the app, text or from a staff member at the front of the store – all at a safe distance
•Reduces time spent close to people as they wait in their car
•Configurable with any brand and operation
•Managed by the team in store on any Android or Apple device
•GDPR compliant

Thame Town Council will be in contact with all town centre businesses to talk through the roll out of the App so that it is adopted town-wide. However if you are ready to get on board, then go ahead and contact Adactus directly to discuss implementation

In the Spotlight:
Introducing Scott Muncaster. MD of Adactus
Who are you and what drives you?
I am Scott Muncaster, Managing Director of a software company called Adactus. Two main things drive me; people and problem solving. It’s a bit of a cliché, but I like it when I can make things better for people

Tell us about your business?
Adactus was formed in 2001 based in Thame. Over the years we have worked with many household brands as well as cutting-edge entrepreneurial start-ups. I became MD in 2016. We are a people-first technology company – we provide the right people, right technology and right solutions to transform our clients’ businesses.

We’ve built pizza online ordering platforms and five-a-side pitch booking systems; haberdashery wholesale ordering and publishing security software (to list just a few). The key is – we understand a business problem and bring our ideas, process and technical know-how to find solutions that are right for our clients. We’re good at it – that’s why so many of our clients have been with us for over 10 years – including Thame -based Groves, our longest-standing client.

The pandemic has affected us like many businesses. We’re able to work remotely, but many of our clients in bricks-and-mortar businesses can’t. Inspired by the way engineering companies pivoted to make medical equipment, we looked at ways our experience and expertise could help – and came up with Adactus SmartQ. This is our digital solution for socially-distanced queueing for businesses and their customers. We’re putting the final pieces together now, ready for launch in June, as more retailers emerge from lockdown. Any company in Thame can use Adactus SmartQ, free-of-charge – as residents, we want Thame to have the safest and fairest queues in the country!

What do you love about being based Thame?
I love how Thame doesn’t feel like “just another UK town” with identical shops and services to any other town. Don’t get me wrong, I love many of our national brands – we’re lucky enough to work with several of them – but I also see that independent businesses help towns like Thame maintain their individual character and community spirit.

I’ve seen this spirit in the discussion and action in Thame since the pandemic hit – this is a town that thinks about and takes care of its community and businesses. I think Thame will do a great job adapting to new ways of living and working - I love that we can be part of that.

Smokin Donut Ltd process over £40,000 for free to keep businesses alive during Covid-19 restrictions.

Thame based company Smokin Donut have given their ground-breaking online shopping software free of charge to beleaguered businesses during lockdown. In the weeks after the government ordered the UK to close, they processed more than £40,000 worth of orders through its TILLO app, making it possible for half a dozen local employers to carry on paying wages and keep their businesses alive.

TILLO has been developed by Chris Brown, Smokin Donut’s founder and Chief Technical Officer, over the last two years, as he was convinced that small businesses deserved a much better deal than they were getting from the big selling platforms. When lockdown came it was still at the BETA testing stage, but he knew it was certainly good enough to offer just the help that local shop and restaurant owners might need to stay afloat. It was designed it so that it could be set up and ready within 24 hours – a huge plus for the worried business owners who came to Smokin Donut for support. They were able to set up contactless ordering, collection and delivery for businesses that usually relied on over-counter and walk-in custom. It has even created the prospect of growth for some, post-lockdown, who now see that they might be able to develop an online ordering stream when normal business resumes.”

Businesses in Thame who are using this include www.wholefoodspantry.co.uk and www.cottage-bakery.co.uk. Find out more at www.tillo.co.uk
