COVID-19 and CVWMA Collections
A Message from Our Executive Director

As COVID-19 continues to disrupt our lives, the removal of trash and recyclables remains essential services for public health and safety. We are most appreciative of front-line workers out collecting, sorting, and processing regional recycling as well as those who service residential trash collections in our region.

Our residential trash and recycling collections remain on regular schedule. As we move into Phase One, please take the time to review guidelines for items that can/cannot be placed in your trash or recycling containers. The CVWMA website as well the locality website where you reside has all of this information.

Keep gloves, masks, other PPE out of recycling bins. Do not litter these items either and instead bag these items and dispose of them properly by following local and Center for Disease Control guidelines. We want everyone to stay safe and well.

With so many families still at home, now is the perfect time to remind you that your recycling is helping in the fight against COVID-19. There is a critical need for all raw materials in the manufacturing supply chain, especially paper and cardboard. Recycled materials are key for everything from making new products to boxes to ship products and other essential supplies for the everyday needs of hospitals, grocery stores, pharmacies and American homes.

Thank you for recycling. You make a difference.

Kim Hynes, Executive Director
CVWMA

It's All You. Recycling Matters.

Let's keep the recycling momentum going. Your recycling matters. We ask you to recycle right. Now is a good time to make sure you know what items are accepted in our residential (curbside) recycling and drop-off recycling programs, as well as those items that are not accepted. Just because you see the recycling symbol and a number does not mean it is accepted in our recycling programs. Contamination (placing items we do not accept in recycling containers) continues to be a problem.

Leave these items and other unaccepted items out of recycling containers:
  • Plastic bags or plastic bagged recyclables
  • Garden hoses and extension cords(any tangler)
  • Batteries (of any kind)
  • Flammables (such as motor oil, paint)
  • Food contaminated items, liquids, household garbage
  • Styrofoam or foam items (carryout or packing materials)
  • Aluminum foil
  • Shredded paper
  • Aerosol cans
  • Dispose of masks, gloves, wipes and other items in the trash.
If you are new to the area and want to start recycling, please call CVWMA at (804) 340-0900 or email us at customerservice@cvwma.com .

Virtual Learning Resources

With most schools, childcare facilities, summer camps and local public events closed or canceled due to COVID-19 and "social distancing", our hands-on education and outreach efforts have gone virtual.
Follow CVWMA on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest  as we provide a variety of educational resources to encourage the importance of the 3 R's. In addition, some of our community partners (such as Richmond Family Magazine , Jonathan Austin, Young Scientists), public libraries, soil and waster conservation districts,  and recreation and parks departments within our 13 member localities  are offering free virtual learning experiences too.

Buy Fresh. Buy Local.

For a variety of locally grown fruits, vegetables, and more, shop your local farmer's market. Click here for listing on local markets in our region. In addition, support our local economy by remembering to Think.Shop.Buy.Local.
