SWISS + CULTURE + ONLINE
Join us for the launch of the virtual interactive robotic installation Handshake today at 12:30pm with a live conversation between Swiss design duo AATB (Andrea Anner and Thibault Brevet) and NY-based design critic and curator Roddy Schrock of Eyebeam. The discussion will focus on the development of AATB’s work at the intersection of design and robotics, and will reflect on the role that design can play in the future of automation and robotics. AATB will give a brief demo of their virtual robotic installation Handshake, which is accessible to the public as of today through June 30, 2020. The installation consists of two robotic arms located in AATB’s studio space, each equipped with an over-sized hand. Visitors are matched in pairs as they join the website, each remotely controlling one robotic arm in their browser in real-time via mouse and touch input. They then interact with one another aiming to shake hands while visitors can simultaneously observe this interaction between the two robots happening in real time over live feed. The project builds on AATB’s strong expertise in robotics systems, web development, and interactive installations. Register here for the live discussion today at 12:30pm (you will receive the link upon registration) and experience the virtual robotic installation here.

WATCH
BAND OF OUTSIDERS
STREAM THE MOVIE NOW
Film Forum is granting rental access to some of cinema’s biggest classics, among them is Jean-Luc Godard’s legendary Band of Outsiders (Bande à part). While Godard is considered a pioneer of New Wave cinema, this movie is dubbed as his most accessible. Band of Outsiders is a charming gangster movie about two friends who court a young woman and lead her into committing a robbery in her own home. Full of turbulent shots of 1960s Paris, quirky interactions between the main characters, and one dance sequence so unforgettable that there have been several renditions of it in popular culture (see Pulp Fiction), this movie is a great way to ring in a light summer evening. STAFF PICK
RECIPES BY BETTY BOSSI
RECOMMENDED BY SANDRA
My name is Sandra and I'm a team member of the Consular Section. Going about our daily work in these unprecedented times has been both hard and rewarding. I decided I had to make quarantine as positive an experience as possible for my daughter. I always wanted to teach her Swiss cooking, just like I had learned back in school in Switzerland. We started out with the Betty Bossi children’s cookbook, continued with the more advanced Swiss Cookbook, also by Betty Bossi, and then I found TipTopf (the cookbook typically used in Swiss schools) in an old box in the basement. The memories! Now we are graduating to Chef Yannick Germanier’s cooking videos. Full success!
