Friday Flash: Joint Fire Science Program Announces Changes in Leadership
Ed Brunson, JFSP Program Manger
The BLM Fire & Aviation Directorate is proud to announce Ed Brunson as the new program manager for the Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP). The JFSP provides leadership to the fire science community by identifying high-priority fire science research needs that will enhance the decision-making ability of fire and fuels managers, natural resource managers, and others to meet their management objectives.
Ed has been with the JFSP since 2015; he has experience as the JFSP Communications Director and Deputy Program Manager, and has served as the Acting Program Manager since January of this year. Prior to working directly for the program, Ed has worked as a Regional Fuels Specialist and Regional Fire Ecologist for Bureau of Indian Affairs in Portland and Nashville, respectively - during this time he served on the JFSP Governing Board.
Outside of federal service, Ed's been a Ed's been a Preserve Manager, Fire Education Director and State Fire Manager for The Nature Conservancy.
Joint Fire Science Program Governing Board
The JFSP is jointly funded by the Departments of Agriculture and the Interior, and governence is through a 12-member Governing Board with six memebers from the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and one member each from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), National Park Service (NPS), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Office of Wildland Fire (OWF). The newly elected chair of the governing board is Dana Skelly, U.S. Forest Service and Vice Chair Paul Steblein, U.S. Geological Survey. All the current board members as of 2020 are in the link below:
