2020 Watershed Symposium is Going Digital!

Due to health and safety concerns from the COVID-19 outbreak, the Montana Watershed Coordination Council and the Montana Forest Collaboration Network have decided to restructure our combined conference scheduled for this coming fall, and we are no longer gathering in Butte, MT October 14th-16th. Instead, we will be working to develop new and innovative strategies to engage and serve our conservation partners across the state.  In the coming months, we will be planning a suite of opportunities that will allow partners in our networks to connect and learn remotely. We’re exploring opportunities to provide digital trainings, webinars, keynote addresses, and possibly small, regionally-based gatherings or field trips throughout the state. We understand how important it is that our conservation community continues to collaborate and stay connected, and we will do our best to facilitate this in creative and meaningful ways over the coming months. The health and safety of our networks and communities is our highest priority, and we look forward to connecting with you this fall. We will have more information on dates and content soon. In the meantime, please reach out with any questions, suggestions, or needs we can serve.

AIS Prevention, Education, and Surprises: Watercraft Inspection Season Begins

Check out our most recent blog post about the start of watercraft inspection season in Eastern Montana. Garfield County Conservation District Administrator and MWCC Board Member Dusty Olson writes about important updates to aquatic invasive species prevention and about the daily happenings at check stations. From inspections and education to ticks and high winds, there's a lot going on.

Former Symposium Speaker Releases Book on the Power of Storytelling

Remember the 2018 Watershed Symposium, where we learned about the importance of storytelling for ourselves and our organizations? Remember Sarah Elkins, the keynote speaker who showed us the power of good storytelling? Her new book, "Your Stories Don't Define You: How You Tell Them Will," is now available for purchase! The ebook will be available for preorder for $0.99 on Amazon through May 31. After May 31, you can order the paperback via Bookshop.org, where you can support your local bookstore.
Watershed Family Updates

Thank You Rosie, and Welcome Back Kierra!

MWCC has been lucky to have Rosie Costain working with us over the past year – expanding Watershed Stories into the audio realm, providing resources for the Missouri Headwaters Watershed Tour last September, and of course bringing the Watershed News to our network, with upgrades in design and content. Rosie has been a pleasure to work with and a source of great ideas and inspiration throughout her time with us. As she moves on to working with the Montana Conservation Corps this summer, then to grad school, let’s all give her a great big Thank You for all she’s done for MWCC!

We can’t be too sad, though, because Kierra Davis, master of Watershed News and MWCC event planning, is back! (How did we get so lucky twice?) Kierra left us in early 2019 to move back to Kentucky and a few more places besides. Although we haven’t yet convinced her and her husband to come back to Montana, we have convinced her to take the helm of Watershed News again! Kierra is excited to be back remotely, and we’re excited to have her! You can find her at kierra@mtwatersheds.org.

As usual, if you have a news item, funding opportunity, or event you’d like to share for Watershed News, email info@mtwatersheds.org.
