Dear colleagues,

With great sadness, we announce that Philip Bromberg passed away early this morning, May 18th, 20220 of natural causes.  Philip was one of the founders of IARPP and the Stephen Mitchell Center for Relational Studies, a longtime, esteemed member of the faculties of the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis and William Alanson White, and a beloved teacher, supervisor, analyst, friend and mentor to many in our community.  His teaching and publications, especially on the topics of dissociation in normal and less adaptive mental functioning, multiplicity, enactment, trauma, and the process of healing and growth via human relatedness, have influenced generations of clinicians throughout the world.  His insights were extraordinary, his writing profound and often poetic.

We send our condolences to his wife Margo Bromberg, his family, and friends. All arrangements will be private, though a memorial honoring Philip will be planned in the future. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions honoring Philip should be sent to the psychoanalytic training program of one’s choice.

With sympathy and tremendous appreciation for all that Philip has so generously given to our relational community and beyond,

Steven Kuchuck and the IARPP Board of Directors

Life-changing psychoanalytic training / Collegial community: Join SDPC
How Can Psychoanalysis Change Your Life?

Here is what SDPC members say:

"The decision to enter psychoanalytic treatment and training was one of the best I ever made. Thirty years later, the multifaceted world of psychoanalysis remains exceptionally gratifying. I have received invaluable training in developing and maintaining a deepening therapeutic process with a diverse range of patients, enabling me to sustain an emotionally rewarding practice - even in the age of managed care."

"In a larger and relational sense, the psychoanalytic community has been like an extended family for me. A bit like my own small town in which I have made lifelong friends."

"I felt welcomed by each member I met both during classes and events organized by  SDPC. A few members worked with me to understand which program would fit me best."

IPA Webinar: Clinical Approaches in Times of Covid-19

Friday 29 May 2020, 16h00 - 17h30 (BST, London)

(the local time zone will be displayed in the drop-down menu of the registration page)

A few months have passed since the beginning of the pandemic and, consequently, of social isolation and the transition from face-to-face to virtual clinical sessions. Following up on our IPA Webinars in which we have discussed topics related to this current time of COVID-19, we decided to invite three IPA psychoanalysts - one from each region - to comment and talk to each other about the clinical approaches that each one has been developing, as well as their conclusions, questions and difficulties in the development of the psychoanalytic clinic in a situation as unusual as the one we are experiencing.

In this sense, we believe that by promoting yet another webinar on clinical matters, we would provide ample space not only to learn about the experience of some members of the IPA, but also to continue researching and contributing to the necessary continuity of the debate on these urgent and unprecedented issues that the psychoanalytic clinic is facing.

Gertraud Schlesinger-Kipp from Germany, Jay Greenberg from the USA, and Ruggero Levy from Brazil are invited to participate in this Webinar, and the moderator will be our current treasurer, Henk Jan Dalewijk.

Panellists: Gertraud Schlesinger-Kipp, Jay Greenberg and Ruggero Levy

Gertraud Schlesinger-Kipp is a psychologist, psychoanalyst and training analyst of the German Psychoanalytical Association (DPV, IPA) former president of DPV, former member of IPA Board, member of COWAP and Chair of Migration and Refugees Committee.

Jay Greenberg: Training and Supervising Analyst, William Alanson White Institute; Editor, The Psychoanalytic Quarterly; former Editor for North America, International Journal of Psychoanalysis; former Editor, Contemporary Psychoanalysis; co-author with Stephen Mitchell, Object Relations in Psychoanalytic Theory; author, Oedipus and Beyond: A Clinical Theory; Recipient, 2015 Mary S. Sigourney Award for Outstanding Achievement in Psychoanalysis.

Ruggero Levy: Psychoanalyst, Full Member and Training Analyst of the Psychoanalytic Society from Porto Alegre (SPPA), Brazil; Former President of SPPA; Chair of the IPA Working Parties Committee; Ex-IPA Board Member from 2011-2013 and from 2013-2015; Professor and Supervisor of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in the Courses of Specialization on Children, Adolescent and Adult Psychotherapy; author of many book chapters and scientific papers published in regional, national and international psychoanalytic reviews.

Moderator: Henk Jan Dalewijk is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, current IPA Treasurer, and long-standing active IPA member of the Dutch Psychoanalytical Society. Particularly interested in large group dynamics.

Register for your free place below; if you are unable to attend the live session but would like to receive a recording, please continue to register and a recording will automatically be emailed to you once the live session has ended. Please note, this webinar will be in English.
