Happy Friday!  Apologies for the lateness of today's 'Buzz, but I had SO hoped to have *the* awesome news to share with you this week and was awaiting final confirmation from a local vendor but unfortunately, things went a wee bit wonky.  It has been a lesson in patience (see my blurb about that below).  Come hell or high water, it WILL happen by next Friday!  In the meantime, lots of other news to share...
BEACH OFFICIALLY OPEN
I know there was a bit of confusion last weekend about the wearing of the face coverings 🙄  However, that has been cleared up and there are other things too, thankfully clarified by either Governor Carney himself and/or the Town Council.  Here's what you need to know about our beach *officially opening*.  Now, if only the weather would cooperate!

You can check for updates on the town's website here.
OUR REBIRTH

Governor Carney has scheduled Phase 1 of our Economic Reopening for June 1st.  As we ever so slowly find our new normal, and more of you are allowed to eventually come back to visit your favorite beach, please keep in mind that a lot of business owners are in the midst of surviving one of the hardest professional and personal challenges that they've ever had to face.

While those that are allowed to move forward in this first phase are super excited to open, they're not through the woods yet, they're just beginning...it's even harder for those that have to keep waiting.  They're dealing with lost revenue and employees, new policies and strict protocols...a very different business from a mere 3 months ago.

As they rebuild their businesses in this new world, please have patience; be considerate and kind.  We all love you and want you here celebrating the joys of our rebirth!

And, in the meantime, you can keep participating in our on-going Community Over Covid Revolution because the above is why it started in the first place...supporting our small businesses 🥰

SUSSEX FLYOVER

Keep your eye on the sky tomorrow!  Vintage aircraft will be flying over Sussex County Saturday, May 23 (starting at 11am from Georgetown), to pay tribute to healthcare workers and first responders and Sussex County high schools to honor the Class of 2020.  The flyover list includes Southeastern Sussex area including Beebe Healthcare, Millville; Indian River High School; Selbyville Volunteer Fire Co.; Fenwick Lighthouse, among others.

In case of inclement weather, the flyover will be on Sunday, May 24th; same schedule.

CANDLES OF HONOR
The American Legion is asking us to light candles of honor to reflect and show respect for what Memorial Day is really about.  Here's what they suggest:
  • Red to remember those who shed their blood in combat and made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country.
  • White to remind us all of the POWs and MIAs who are not yet home from wartime service.
  • Blue to symbolize our eternal love of those who did come home but have since left us.

Any way you choose, light a candle of remembrance, or three and, if so moved, make a sign for household members to hold and take a pic to share on social media or the American Legion's website.  Use the hashtag #candlesofhonor.
Lots more to come next week!  Until then, enjoy...

   EVENTS

All events are cancelled until further notice.  Some businesses are working on virtual events so be sure to check the online calendar. I haven't deleted everything because I'm an eternal optimist and hope that I won't have to...fingers crossed ;-)
