MJ's Yogi Tip for Today

This week my yoga class focus is about moving, stretching, breathing and lifting your spirits! Camatkarasana better known as "rock star" is a vibrant energetic pose that will lift your spirits. Let's find out how to do this pose.

Rock Star!

This pose is a combination of a backbend, balancing pose, hip opener and core strengthener:

  •  Begin in plank with shoulders stacked over wrists and legs engaged. Bring your feet and legs together to touch and walk your right hand to center of mat.
  • On an exhale, bring your weight into your right hand, roll onto the outer edge of your right foot and extend your left arm straight up towards the sky to come into side plank. Keep feet stacked on top of one another and your hips lifted.
  •  Step your left foot back behind you with left knee bent and place ball of left foot on the ground.
  • Soften shoulder blades, upper back softens and curls into a backbend. Take a deep inhalation and lift and extend your elevated arm forward and down to express the heart, allow head and neck to hang softly.
  • Press down through feet and right hand for added lift to the hips.
  • Take 5 full breathes and then send your gaze back to the center of your mat and step back to plank. Take a few breaths and repeat on opposite side.
