Chicago Music Guide Newsletter

Monday, May 25th, 2020

Happy Memorial Day!

I would like to start this newsletter by thanking all who served in support of our freedom, we can never thank you enough.

I hope that everyone was able to spend some quality time with family over the weekend and enjoy some of the warmer weather too.

I spend most of my time continually working on the Chicago Music Guide website, building up more with the Sounds of Chicago and Global Music Podcast shows and doing all I can to try to bring more attention to the Chicago Independent Media Alliance fundraiser that is going on until June 5th. As of this weekend, we've raised over $37,000 in support of independent media outlets, like us, Chicago Reader and Rebellious Magazine For Women along with Radio stations like Chirp Radio. So, there has never been a dull moment to say the least.

Roman Sobus, lead photographer for Chicago Music Guide has taken some more photos in and around the Chicago area capturing how things are going these days. I know we'll get back to normal one day, it is only a matter of time.

FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK!
FEATURED BAND OF THE WEEK: Voice of Addiction
Voice Of Addiction takes on the attitude that the punk rock revolution instilled in us, but infuses it with genre-mashing breakdowns. Sometimes described as a “unique refreshing slant to the punk rock world.” Voice Of Addiction’s members put their distinct personalities and experiences into the instruments they play and the music they write. V.O.A.’s music has an immense presence that builds tension and releases it at the most opportune times. Learn more about them and watch their latest video here: https://chicagomusicguide.com/featured-artist-voice-of-addiction/

Independent Media is More Important Than Ever, and We Need To Act Now.

The way we interact with the news has changed astronomically in the past ten years. While we used to follow our local news and local stories on television, the world has become more connected, and in the process, we have lost sight of how important our local news media outlets are. The Chicago Music Guide recently sat down for a zoom conversation with Tracy Baim, Publisher at the Chicago Reader. We discussed how we can protect local media in Chicago in the coming years and how COVID-19 has fast tracked the efforts to keep local media alive. Read the rest of the article here:

Chicago’s Susie Blue duets with UK Singer and Songwriter Dominic Halpin

Halpin and Miles just released a new video together – long distance – crooning a jazzy/country duet of “So Sad” by the Everly Brothers… and it sounds like it’s been plucked from retro radio, joyously lilting and at once vintage and contemporary.   His rich baritone and her smoky alto  swirl around together like smooth scotch on the rocks.
