Today, as you hear a  journal entry from Charlotte Forten
and a poem from Walt Whitman,
how about getting out your pen or computer too?

Charlotte Forten  (1837 - 1914) was an activist, teacher, abolitionist, nurse, poet and journalist. Philadelphia born free woman of color. Listen as Gigi McGraw reads a portion from one of her diaries:
