May ZI District 4 Membership News

Dear Zonta International District 4 Members,
This has been a very interesting last couple of months! I am sure we continue to learn a little bit more about ourselves. Have you found a new hobby? Have you been in contact more frequently with your family and friends? Zoom, Skype, Facetime, GTM are something we do on a regular basis and hopefully becoming more comfortable with. The world is at our fingertips! This has been a busy time of year for Zonta! Dues, the election of officers, Installation/Induction ceremonies, budgets, FR, forming new committees.
Please remember:
  • Zonta International and District 4 Dues are due on June 1, 2020. Club presidents received a mailing from Zonta International last week. This is very important to complete on time.  Your club wants to be in good standing to vote on ZI Board and ZI Bylaws and Resolutions that will happen even though Convention has been cancelled. If you have any questions, please contact your President, Area Director or myself.
  • If you have not sent me your Club Officer Form 2020-2021, please send it asap.
  • Register today: District 4 Reading Group on Wednesday, June 10, 2020: No One Is Too Small to Make a Difference by Greta Thunberg along with Climate Change and Ethical Investing by Nita McCown, Area 2 Director.
  • Save the Date:  Saturday, June 20th for Zonta’s Leadership/President’s Training with Past District 4 Governor, Lori Robinson.
  • If you know of any Zonta member who does not receive the District 4 E-News, please have them send their current email to D4 Communications. They will be added to District 4 membership email roster.
  • Please take a look at the Zonta International and District 4 websites. (zonta.org, zontadistrict4.org) There is a lot of information available to you.
  • If you need assistance with anything, please contact me or a member of the District 4 Board. We are here to help you.

ZI District 4 Centennial Traveling Flag

District 4 Centennial Committee chose the traveling flag as our District’s Centennial Project.

The District 4 Centennial Flag was unveiled on November 25, 2018 in Buffalo, NY where Zonta began. The flag helped to kick off the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence and the International Day of the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

The traveling flag began its journey in March 2019 through District 4’s six areas to celebrate our 100 years of service and advocacy and to advance the status of women and children throughout the world.  COVID-19 put a small glitch into our flag’s travels. Area 6 and Area 4 were affected and the flag needed to make an abrupt halt in its travels but we adjusted and future arrangements will be made for these two areas to have the flag.

The Centennial Traveling Flag project linked 34 clubs and over 750 members in our district. The flag was present at club fundraisers, service projects, special luncheons and dinners and International Women Day Celebrations. Each club president signed the flag. The District 4 Centennial Traveling Flag Book also made the journey with the flag. The book holds all the club histories that clubs documented and added to the book. Club and District 4 Press Releases and Club and District 4 Centennial Media Kits were provided for club use to celebrate their centennial event and celebration of Zonta’s 100 years.  Media kits and press releases were given to all clubs prior to the flag’s journey and can be used for years to come.

We will see the Centennial flag and book again at our District 4 Conference in Erie, PA in September 2021. The district will have the flag to always remind us of Zonta’s 100th celebration and our District 4 Centennial Project.

This was an exciting time in our District 4 history. The Area Directors of our district assisted and organized the flag’s journey. Club president and members documented their history, took pictures and sent pictures to our District 4 website for all to see.

Our Centennial Traveling Flag celebration was cut short by circumstances beyond our control, but we will always remember our Centennial celebration and the true meaning of why we are here to celebrate our past and look to the future as we begin the next 100 years of Zonta International.

Embracing Technology

They closed the border, but your Area Directors, who refer to themselves at Directors Without Borders, have continued to work on your behalf. Along with the Board of Directors, we have adapted to the use of technology to meet and discuss and it didn't hurt a bit!!
