Not many know the significance of "Memorial Day".
It was intended to honor the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military- the ultimate sacrifice. According to History.com, "Each year on Memorial Day a national moment of remembrance takes place at 3:00 p.m. local time." The occasion has been marked as far back as the Civil War!
The long weekend is the unofficial start to summer & vacations. This year, it's different... we've been impacted by the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Travel doesn't have the same appeal (or availability) that it did ~90 days ago. I'm ecstatic school's out, but summer won't be much different than e. Many summer camps, vacations & other events were unexpectedly canceled. BUT all isn't lost!
Many will hit the road to see national parks (as they reopen), other outdoor landmarks & monuments. RV rentals & sales are up! I know several people whose trips are already in the works and am working on an epic road trip, as long as interstate travel is still an option (it is, last I checked).
If you're sticking close to home, Watch the live-stream of the National Memorial Day Concert on PBS.org, YouTube and Facebook at 8 p.m. ET. (5P in AZ). Hosts Joe Mantegna & Gary Sinise, will feature the US Army Chorus, the National Symphony Orchestra, Broadway star Kelli O'Hara and other performers.
Keep scrolling for a few more options if you're in town for the holiday...
Whatever your plans, enjoy the long weekend!
