Word from the Primary Head

The e-learning periods seem far behind us!

Now that some time has lapsed, we have decided to ask students from CE1 to CM2 to share their experiences of home-learning with us. They will receive a questionnaire to complete this week, asking them how they felt about the three periods of e-learning, the tools they used, the activities they completed etc. They are free to abstain from answering if they prefer.

Our objective is to analyse their answers in order to get a clear picture of what worked and what needs to be improved on, and also to allow the students to put words to their experiences. We want to do our utmost to ensure student well-being and to help them see the positives to be gleaned from the exceptional circumstances they lived through. We will of course also be open to answering any questions they may have for us!

TES Eco-School Committee - student elections and a parent volunteer

TES is preparing for the next phase in the application for Eco-School Green Flag status with student elections for the Tri-Section Eco-Committee next week. Students currently in CP to CM1 who are enrolled in the French Section for the school year 2020-2021 may run for election. Teachers will be talking to students about the role of the Eco-Committee members in class  this week and looking for candidates for election. If you would like your child to run for election, please discuss it with them at home too.

One parent representative per Section is also required for the Eco-Committee. The parent representative will need to attend 8 monthly meetings at lunchtime during the next school year. If you are interested in being the French Section Parent Representative on the Tri-Section Eco-Committee, please contact philip.dawson@tes.tp.edu.tw

French Section Leavers

Although the traditional Leavers’ ceremonies cannot take place this year on account of the COVID-19 social distancing measures, we are nonetheless preparing the gifts for this year’s leavers.

Some children have mentioned to their classmates and teachers that they will not be at the French Section next year, but our administration staff have no official record of their departure. If your child will not be with the French Section for the school year 2020-2021, can you please respond to the survey on TESmile? Please read this letter from Kerry Nockolds, originally sent by TES Admissions on 24th March for more information.

As well as allowing us to prepare the leavers’ gifts, having this information will help us organise the class lists for the coming school year. Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Secondary

A word from the secondary assistant head

"Opening the narrow rickety gate,

I went for a walk in the little garden,

All lit up by that gentle morning sun,"

It wasn’t exactly true this Saturday on a rainy Yamgminshan when our 1ère students composed exam-style essays about this poem by Paul Verlaine, taken from “Melancholia”. The choice was between poetry or theatre. At the same time, the 2nde students were writing exam-style essays on the following topic, “Through the lyrical expression of opposing sentiments, the poet is unexpectedly singing the praise of dreams from a humanist perspective.”

Even though the national exams have been cancelled this year, it is a testament to the professionalism of our teaching team that they continue to provide the same teaching and learning experience to our students as they would any other year - ensuring that students acquire the necessary exam methods, skills and competencies, even if they do not sit exams this year.  Our teachers have high expectations of their students, and it works in everyone’s favour - as our Tle students can confirm: last week, they received their first round of university offers, and it has to be said, they are as excellent as ever.

Have a nice week.
Mr Franck Lefèvre
