News and Updates from the Crescent College Past Pupils Union

June 2020

Message from the President of the PPU

Hello to all my fellow Crescent past pupils .

These are indeed challenging times with COVID-19, but as a group we will all get through this.

Crescent and its ethos is part of all our DNA and though it is hard for all of us at different times, different days, different hours, we have our friends and family for support during this unprecedented time. Unfortunately our annual dinner has been cancelled due to this pandemic. This is of great disappointment to all of us, as the event is the centrepiece of the crescent college past pupils union's year and has become a huge success and a great yearly gathering. It is hoped we can run some virtual events in the autumn, which everyone can take part in.

Wishing everybody lots of good luck and stay safe . Remember you can keep in touch with all crescent past pupils via our website crescentpast.com

On behalf of the committee.

Geraldine Heslin Deery
Crescent College Past Pupils Union President

Donation of €1000 from PPU funds to VdeP

The PPU recently donated €1000 to the Society of St.Vincent de Paul to assist those most in need during this worldwide crisis. We hope the donation will help them continue their great work and is a gesture on your behalf to a charity which has a long and close relationship with Crescent College.

Diarmuid Mullins takes on the role of CCC Principal

We would like to congratulate Diarmuid Mullins in his new role as Principal and look forward to working with him and all the staff at CCC.

We would also like to offer our heartfelt thanks to Karin Fleming who is stepping down as Principal at Crescent College Comprehensive for all her work over many years at the school. The Past Pupils Union has enjoyed working with Karin for the last number of years and we wish her well in her future. The PPU President Geraldine Heslin Deery recently presented Karin with flowers at the school.

Ross Niland becomes chief executive of the prestigious Queens Club

We would like to extend our congratulations to Ross Niland who has recently taken on the role of chief executive of one of the world's most famous clubs in tennis.

Ross who attended Crescent with his brothers and sisters is from a great sporting family with his brothers Ray (played rugby with Garryowen and Lansdowne) and Conor (former tennis professional and Davis Cup captain) and his sister Gina (Federation Cup tennis player).

In light of the current circumstances it is with great regret that the PPU committee has decided to cancel this years table quiz and the forthcoming past pupils dinner scheduled for October.

The annual golf challenge for the Ignatian cup is under review and a decision will be made in the coming weeks if the event can go ahead as planned on September 4th. Stay tuned.
