Dear Friend,
It’s always so good to hear from one of our elected officials, and last week we had a great conversation with Regina O’Brien, Eagle County Clerk and Recorder. This Q & A, moderated by Kathy Chandler-Henry, Eagle County Commissioner, helped us learn about how elections are run and to understand more about our electorate. If you joined us live, thank you! If you would like to watch it, email us at vailvalleyvotes@gmail.com and we will send you a link to the recording.

This week there is a discussion with Senator Bennet that we wanted to highlight:

Presentation by Senator Michael Bennet - TODAY!
Tuesday, May 26th at 2:00 pm
Senator Bennet will join a panel of Coloradans to talk about why creating a federal Health Force would employ hundreds of thousands of people to support our country’s pandemic response and the public health infrastructure moving forward. The RSVP is HERE: https://may26healthforcecall.eventbrite.com/

Upcoming Primary Election
There are several primary races that will be on the June 30th ballots. To learn more about who is running for what office, you can look at the sample composite ballots for each party at https://www.eaglecounty.us/Clerk/Voting_and_Elections/Upcoming_Elections/.

Make sure you get your ballot!
All ballots will be mailed the week of June 8th. Before then, please go to GoVoteColorado.gov to confirm that you are registered and that your home and mailing addresses are current – the post office will not forward ballots! After ballots are mailed you can still go in person to change your address and get a new ballot, but it is much safer and easier for you and for our county employees if you do it now!

You have until June 1st to change your party affiliation for the June 30th Primary. There is no flexibility in this date. To change your party affiliation, go to https://www.sos.state.co.us/voter/pages/pub/home.xhtml.

Learn More about the Candidates
As a reminder, Vail Valley Votes does not endorse or fundraise for any candidates. This list of events is provided for your information only – we want you to be educated so you can decide how to vote!

Several primary candidates are having forums or meet and greets this week:

Automatic Voter Registration News
Did you know that Colorado is the first to provide state-wide automatic voter registration? In a May 19, 2020 press release, Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced that eligible voters who provide proof of citizenship will automatically be registered to vote any time they apply for or renew their driver’s license. All eligible voters will be sent a letter informing them they will be registered and offering the option to decline the registration or to affiliate with a political party. Colorado is currently the only state in the nation to do this; other states still require eligible voters to indicate that they wish to be registered, which is what Colorado also did in the past.
