Gents - so you’ve got the paddocks ready for your winter crops, equipment checked, had a chat with your banker after these crazy months of fires/drought and now this new virus! It’s been big, busy and ugly!!

But what about you guys?

In 2018, just under half of Australia’s population—49%, or 12.4 million people—were male. On average, Australian males experience different health outcomes to Australian females. They are more likely than females to engage in risky health behaviours and to die prematurely. They are also more likely to be homeless or in custody. Compared with females, males experience more of their total disease burden due to dying early from disease and injury than from living with disease.

In rural areas - and amongst farmers out there - this is worse!

So remember - get yourself checked! See your GP, have a yack with your mates, reach out!

Want to learn how to help your rural community build resilience?

We are currently offering 8 x $1650 scholarships to help you get started.

Why not use this time in isolation or working from home to upskill and make a difference to your community. More than ever, agricultural communities need people in their corner. People who understand the true impact of changing climate, disasters like bushfire and disease pandemic, and how changing agricultural practices influence the health and wellbeing of communities. People who are dynamic, understanding and can lead change in their communities…people like YOU.

“Working with rural and remote communities I believe I have a deeper understanding of the mental and physical issues the farming community face thanks to the HMF702 unit. I have been able to ‘think outside the box’ when working with rural communities in supporting them to optimal health and wellbeing.” Sarah Crosthwaite Social Worker, Wodonga VIC.

Delivered completely online, Healthy and Sustainable Agricultural Communities (HMF702) offers the flexibility to learn remotely and connect with students from across Australia. Applications close 7/6/20!

As restrictions begin to lift and people find their new ‘normal’, farmers continue to work hard to produce the quality food and fibre we all depend on. This month, we checked back in with local farmers Morna and Jeff to see how they are going with their COVID-19 plan and see what changes they have implemented moving forward.
