May Newsletter

Sat Naam dear all,

I haven't communicated with you through a newsletter since March when the lockdown had just started. Writing a new newsletter has been on my to-do-list since April, but I've strangely not felt like writing one at all. Spending so much extra time behind a screen to teach makes me not want to sit behind one when I don't need to!

I hope you and your families and communities are physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually well - and that you at least are able to draw on your practice to lift yourself up on the days, moments, maybe sometimes even weeks that you are not feeling well. I see a fair amount of people on screen every week, and while some are thriving in this new situation - with more time for themselves or their family for example - others are struggling massively. So much depends on our individual circumstances - and on our mind's ability to be content and to connect to Source, to our Higher Self, regardless of the outer circumstances, knowing that all this is just a Play of Illusion anyway...

A little bit about what's been happening here: obviously all treatments, Closing the Bones ceremonies and trainings, and all in-person work has been cancelled for the past months, and likely will be for the foreseeable future. The yoga classes have all moved online, and I think most of us have been getting used to that new way of practicing together-alone.

In the first week of the lockdown I felt incredibly motivated to make the very most of this time and signed up for several online courses - which I still haven't done anything about of course, as it turned out that I'm still rather busy with work but just in different ways, with my household (endless amounts of cooking!), with shopping trips that take much longer, with daily waits outside the Post Office to parcel products and rebozos to customers, and with just taking enough rest as well and pottering about on my patio - in between Zoom classes the last thing I often feel like doing is sitting for more hours behind my laptop to do a training! Just like practicing online will be quite different for you all, teaching online is a very different experience for me, very much also on an energetic level, and it's profoundly more tiring energetically!

BUT there is one training I signed up for a month into lockdown which I did actually also start with and which I'm now thoroughly enjoying spending my free time with, and that's the Yin Yoga Teacher Training I have embarked on - I had been pulled in this direction for a while now, and I'm so glad I decided to do it now! Yin Yoga TT has been inspiring me to revisit and dive much deeper into Chinese 5 element medicine and the study of the meridians. In my last years of living in Belgium this was the system that framed my own outlook on health, thanks to the people in my immediate surroundings (my first husband and his brother, and my ex-sister-in-law) who were also studying it, and thanks to the deep effect of my regular shiatsu sessions with my ex-sister-in-law. That slowly changed over the past 9 years and I started approaching health much more from the Ayurvedic perspective, largely due to Kundalini Yoga and the Indian community I live among. And now there is a new shift happening as I started again being pulled into the direction of Chinese medicine for the past 8 months. My own work with my traditional Chinese medicine practitioner definitely contributed to that. And Yin Yoga TT rekindled it further and now it's taking on its own momentum. And I LOVE the beautiful artwork of the ancient drawings on the meridians!!

Okay, so what do I have here to offer you?

In March's newsletter you could find a whole lot of information to help boost your immune system, lists of antiviral products to consider, etc. I'm not going to repeat that information here, but you can always refer back to March's newsletter in case you missed that or wanted to refresh your memory with some of the info in there.

In this newsletter you'll find info about our daily Zoom classes; the options for 1-2-1s; the upcoming Great British KY festival that is taking place online next weekend and where I'll be facilitating a Rebozo massage workshop in the Red Tent; June's full moon on the Pericardium meridian which will be on my birthday :) ; updates on the cancelled Closing the Bones trainings; Aloe Vera seedlings to swap / give away; and several ongoing offers on Rebozos, malas, and products.

A big change I've made to my social media during lockdown is that I've made my Instagram account public - and it's by far the easiest place to always find all current offers and discounts that I'm running on Rebozos, malas, homemade and Neal's Yard products, etc. And during this lockdown there have been several new discounted offers every week, so it's a useful place to keep an eye on. Many of these offers are currently still running. If you're not on social media but would still like to be kept up-to-date about these offers then do please let me know, as I could send them via email or Whatsapp to you if you wanted that.
Daily Zoom Yoga classes during this lockdown

For 2 months now - since Monday 23 March - I have been running 5 weekly Zoom classes, Monday to Friday.

(this is how you'll see me :) )

The first 3 days of the week we have kept to the time of our old in-person group classes, and in these classes - like we already did in the in-person classes - we repeat the same kriya & meditation for 3 days; so you get to experience a kriya and meditation much deeper. It's been wonderful to see so many of you joining 2-3 times every week for these!

* Monday 7-8.30pm
* Tuesday 7-8.30pm
* Wednesday mid-morning 10.30-12

In April we have added 2 more classes to that schedule:
* Thursdays 12-12.45pm: a shorter lunchtime class
* Fridays 4.30-5.15pm: weekly meditation class

--- these are the UK times, add 1 hour for e.g. Belgium, the Netherlands, France, ...

You can always check this again on the Class Schedule page of my website.

I will be continuing with this schedule for the foreseeable future, and I am taking into account that this might be the new normal for several months still, as resuming in-person group classes with social distancing measures, even when we'd be allowed, would be extremely difficult in the smaller venues we use (especially at the Space to Breathe and my home). A very sunny summer might open up the option for classes outside, but we'd likely be surrounded by many others having the same idea, and finding some quiet spots might prove to be a real challenge. So for the time being, I'm working from the notion that classes will stay online for the foreseeable future.

I have been trying to arrange prices in the fairest possible way for both you all and myself, and it has been so fantastic to see how these online classes - even though they bring their own set of challenges, the top of the list being the lack of actual personal contact - have enabled several of you to join many more classes a week then previously (it's been wonderful to see so many of you 3, 4 and even 5 times a week), and have enabled students from further afield (Coventry where I used to teach, Belgium where I used to teach so much) to now join us too.

The payment structure can be found on the Prices page but I'll add it here for ease of reference:

So we are carrying on with the same prices as for our normal 90 min. Zoom group classes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but instead of access to 1 class a week you will get access to ALL 3 of these classes on Zoom every week!

  • Single week: £10
  • Series of 4 consecutive weeks: £35
  • Series of 8 consecutive weeks: £65
  • Concessions: £28 for 4-week series; £55 for 8-week series; £7.50 single week.

Additionally, for the 2 shorter (45 min.) Zoom classes on Thursday and Friday, you pay 1 fee but get to do both these classes if you want. Price is £5 per week for these 2 sessions (or £4.50 concession fee).

You will get all information to log in sent to your email after you've paid via BACS (bank details are in the green box on the Prices page - I can provide Belgian euro-account details for people in Europe).

Classes have been focusing on boosting the immune system, strengthening the aura, helping to control the mind and its wanderings during these challenging times, on reducing negativity and feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, worry, or panic, and on helping you feel connected during this time of physical isolation from the world around us.

1-2-1 Sessions

You can of course still book private Skype or Zoom sessions which can include:

* yoga classes

* health consultations

* consultations around fertility, pregnancy, birth

* pre- and postnatal yoga

* Kids/Family Yoga

* Meditation & Pranayam sessions

* coaching

With restriction slowly easing, we might be able to take these sessions from online to in-person if you live nearby and have a garden (I don't have one) or if we meet in the nearby Fosse Recreation Grounds at the top of my road or in the park along the canal...

As for the private yoga classes, this is also a great time to invest in doing a 5- or 10-session series (these are always discounted compared to individual sessions) on a specific topic to explore further, or something that will specifically serve you right now if you e.g. suffer from anxiety or feel overwhelmed.

A full list of topics you can choose from for these 5 or 10 session series is listed here but below are some that might specifically be appropriate right now for some people

Aloe Vera Seedlings

Just like last year I have been blessed with a high number of Aloe Vera babies again from my plants, and you're very welcome to come and get some if you like. Several have been picked up already but I still have over 15 of them. They are potted out in soil specific for aloe vera. They're free to come and pick up (social distancing style at the front door), but if you're able/willing to swap for other seedlings or plants I'd be really happy, as then I can keep growing other plants or vegetables!
But you're still more than welcome to come and pick up any even if you've got no seedlings to swap for, so please don't feel that you can't ask in that case.

Great British Kundalini Yoga Festival next weekend
The Great British Kundalini Yoga Festival was supposed to start coming Tuesday and last for nearly a whole week, but the Coronavirus has turned this into another online event - which makes travelling and attending a lot easier of course, even if you live abroad!

The festival will now run from Thursday 28 May until Sunday 31 May and will be held via Zoom, with several virtual stages or Rooms: the Main Room, the Workshop Space, the Red Tent (women only), the Healing Space, and Children's Areas. Ticket prices follow a gliding scale depending on your financial situation (and it being affected by the current situation) and start from just £10 for the entire festival or £5 per workshop. Workshop titles and descriptions are still being adjusted or uploaded as shifting the program from a live event to an online event has been quite an undertaking.

I will be co-facilitating a Red Tent workshop on Saturday 30 May from 3.30 until 5.30pm (UK times - 4.30-6.30pm in Europe). "I will be introducing you to the Rebozo or Manta, a shawl traditionally used in Closing the Bones (CtB) or Cerrada-ceremonies. Traditionally offered during the postpartum (or to heal a miscarriage, stillbirth, abortion, loss), Rebozo work as in CtB is also used to support us when menstruating, to mark major transitions in a woman’s life, such as the menarche, marriage, divorce, job or home changes, (peri)menopause, hysterectomy, … as well as for treatment of anxiety, shock, trauma, PTSD, ADD, autism, or sensory overstimulation.

For me, the Rebozo symbolizes both the fabric and the tight weave of Sisterhood: it provides support, comfort, softness, the feeling of being held, and a chrysalis-like space for the many transformations we as women go through. While being rocked and wrapped in a rebozo helps a woman to find her own self and center again and seals up any energy leakages, being in a circle of women can do the same thing for us. Now imagine the strength of those 2 combined…

I’ll show you several ways in which you can massage your entire body with a Rebozo (and even use it for stretches in your yoga practice), teach you to wrap your own hips and abdomen, and show you some massage techniques for the abdomen and hips, helping to release tension from the abdominal fascia and adrenalin deposits on the hip bones.

Bring a Rebozo or Pashmina-type fabric (not too slippery) and some massage oil and a small towel."

This Red Tent workshop is for women only. I am planning to run another similar workshop on Zoom just on my own (so not as part of the Red Tent at the Festival), and for a longer and more in-depth session - if you are interested, do get in touch as you'd be able to help decide the day and time.

And if you want to attend the Festival workshop or a later one and would like to learn to use an actual Rebozo, you can also purchase these on my Rebozo-webshop (and I have some discounted offers, and as you can see in the pictures some very appropriately red-coloured rebozos!) I can still send them out First class post or Guaranteed next day delivery for an extra postage fee even if you order later in the week.

Current Offers on Rebozos, Malas, Neal's Yard and Homemade Products

Meet the Niko essential oil diffuser - one that can be used both indoors (with the normal plug) and in the car (plugged in through the cigarette lighter, and just the correct fit for your cup holder). Since Covid-19 reached us I have been advising people who have one to use it in their car with antiviral oils or blends for it if they e.g. have to go to work, for their shopping trips, ... Once we all start going out more again, this will be an invaluable diffuser to use in your car. And then you can just take it back into the house (or office/workplace!) and use it there too. Super multi-functional. Ideal also for taxi drivers or if you are planning to take your caravan or motor home out this summer! I just have one left now - £43.50 + postage, and you get a free 2ml antiviral blend with it to get you started!

 In honour of World Bee Day last week: 2 items from the NYR Bee Lovely range on offer. 1) Bath & Shower Gel (so good for both shower and as bath foam) 295ml (100ml more than our other full-size shower gels or bath foams!!) just £12 instead of £14. 2) Bee Lovely Beautiful Lips (but also great on very dry skin patches on e.g. knees, elbows, ...) 15g now £5 instead of £6.50. This range is great for the entire family, has nurturing honey in it, and smells beautifully of orange EO. BBE dates 2021 & 2022 so will keep very long! The rest of the (not-discounted) Bee Lovely range can be found here .

 With any purchase of a 100ml Hand Defense glass refill bottle  (£10) (out of stock on the website, but I have some in my home stock; as these keep selling through so fast online I've secured some for customers), you will get a FREE (empty) 50ml spray dispenser for easy use and lighter carrying. A fabulous natural and organic hand sanitizer harnessing the natural power of essential oils.

 Rose & Pomegranate Duo: Foaming Bath & luxurious Bath Oil. 100ml glass bottles. Normally £25, now just £15!! All BBE 2021/2022!

 Trio of Foaming Baths: Rose & Pomegranate; Aromatic; Beauty Sleep. 100ml glass bottles. Normally £24, now just £17!! All BBE 2021/2022!

 Sunshine duo ☀️ (I'm only offering 1 set): set of 50ml Wild Rose Moisturising SPF30 (normally £25) and a 15g Wild Rose Beauty Balm (normally £12) which is the best after-sun treatment you'll find, now together for just £30 instead of £37 (of course you can buy them separately too).

   Gift Package  Set of: 25ml toner (Rose or Frankincense) + 8ml facial oil (Rose or Frankincense) + 8ml facial serum (Beauty Sleep) + 2 surprise skincare sample sachets (potluck choice from Wild Rose Beauty Balm, a different facial oil, Frankincense Intense Concentrate, Rose Facial Polish, the new range Sensitive Replenish + Balance Moisturiser, ...) all in a small gift bag for just £14.50 instead of £21! I also still have stock of the other travel-size products pictured (Frankincense Hydrating Cream, Rose Moisturiser, White Tea Facial Mist) and they can also be organised as little gift packages.

       One thing I LOVE about Neal's Yard Remedies are their BOOKS! They publish the most fantastic books on Natural Health - on herbs, on aromatherapy, on nutrition, on massage ... These books are NOT promoting their products. Instead they are giving you information on health, nutrition, aromatherapy profiles and safety, ... PLUS all the information you need to make your OWN recipes for skincare, for herbal concoctions, for food, etc. I'm running a small promotion on 2 wonderful smaller books from their series:

- Looking Good and Feeling Younger (normal RRP £8.50)
- Little Book of Essential Oils (normal RRP £3.50)

I have 2 sets of both books available for just £9.50 instead of £12! Of course you can also buy them both individually, and I have most of the other bigger books in the second picture available too.

 These felt-padded EO lockets are always popular, so I'm offering them once more. If you buy one of the following NYR 10ml essential oil blends -- Meditation Blend £17.50, De-Stress £13.50 (not pictured) or Women's Balance £15.50 -- PLUS the Rose locket  (that's the only one I have currently available) £12.50 each which comes with a set of differently coloured felt pads -- you get a FREE 5ml (!) Immune-System-boosting essential oil blend that I'll make for you and your family especially (taking into account whether you have small children, pets, ...). (Of course you can buy the oil blends and lockets separately as well.)

And then LAST BUT NOT LEAST:

One of my favourite things to use morning and evening - and often even in between during the day - is my Jade Facial Roller and Gua Sha board (I have these last ones in moonstone and opal too). Chinese people have been using them in their skincare for thousands of years to help
- reduce inflammation
- stimulate lymph drainage
- improve circulation
- tone the skin
- relieve tension in the facial muscles and jaw.
And the cooling effect of jade on the skin will instantly affect your mind - jade is known to bring mental peace and harmony, and it's a stone I regularly use in my malas too.
Moreover, a jade roller and gua sha board can also be used on shoulders, arms, back, legs, feet, ... with the same effects. So, I now have 3 amazing offers for you... And other than usually, these can be used in conjunction with both NYR products AND my own homemade skincare products.
* A full Jade roller AND Gua Sha board set (worth £20, comes with instruction booklet) FREE with every £50 spent on facial skincare (included in this £50 spend are not just facial oils, serums, moisturisers with or without SPF, lotions or face creams - the products you would mostly use in conjunction with the roller or board - but also facial cleansers, toners, facial scrubs, facial mists and masks!)
* Just the Jade Gua Sha board FREE with every £25 spent on facial skincare.
* Just the Jade Roller FREE with every £35 spent on facial skincare.
Limited sets available for this offer! Cannot be used in conjunction with other existing offers.

All of these offers have to be ordered through email or direct message - they are not as such available on my webshop.

   I've been running several offers on Rebozos over the past weeks - most of the discounted ones have been sold through, but I do have a wonderful offer on combos of open & close weave rebozos AND on the 2m chakra colour set (only 1 available of these!): follow the Sale signs on the webshop

 I have been making a lot of new malas during this lockdown (many bespoke orders among them) and some are on offer on the webshop as I was celebrating 1 year of mala making: browse the mala webshop or my Etsy shop to have a look at the offers!

 I have a brand new, still unopened Deluxe Yoga Bolster with an inner case and outer cover (aubergine colour) for sale - I had just bought it for our yoga classes at home but then the lockdown started, and I don't have much space here. The bolster is filled with organic buckwheat has a carrying handle from end to end. The cover has a full zip for easy cleaning of the outer case. Size: 23cm x 63cm. Weight 4.6kg. Due to its weight it's best to pick-up as parcelling costs quite a bit.

Closing the Bones Trainings

Unfortunately due to Covid-19 we have had to cancel all Closing the Bones trainings for now, but if there is an opportunity during the Summer months or early Autumn to hold a new training in Belgium (either in As or in Schilde, where we had planned trainings in March and May) we will definitely organise a new training, possibly even 2, so that those who wanted to train this year get that chance.

I will also stay in touch with the lovely women I was trying to set up trainings with in North-Yorkshire, Dorset and Ireland, and will communicate details for any upcoming trainings once they become possible again through social media and my newsletters.
Full Moon Friday 5 June 2020 in Sagittarius, Affecting the Pericardium
Friday 5 June 2020 - which happens to be the day of my own 41st birthday :) - will bring us a full moon in Sagittarius that will affect the Pericardium meridian, also known as the meridian of the 'Heart Protector' , 'Heart Helper', 'Spirit Protector' or - very poetically - 'the King's Bodyguard'. The pericardium is the protective sheath or sac that surrounds the heart organ. Together with the heart and the blood vessels, the pericardium runs the circulatory system. Energetically its function is to protect the heart from damage and disruption caused by excessive emotions from other organs and/or external sources. In the Chinese 5 element system, as in the Ayurvedic system, extreme emotional outbursts are seen as powerful disruptors of balance and a major cause of disease. Without the pericardium to protect it, the Heart could be gravely injured by every-day emotional commotion.

The Pericardium protects the Heart from emotional trauma, constricts the chest to protect the Heart, and helps to express the Joy of the Heart. It rules our relationships and the emotional issues around them. Emotionally, pericardium energy is related to the loving feelings associated with sexuality, thereby linking the physical and emotional aspects of sexual activity. It does so by moderating the raw sexual energy of the  2nd chakra/kidneys with the all embracing love generated by the 4th chakra/heart.

A balanced pericardium meridian allows us to be generous, warm, kindhearted, loving and compassionate to those around us, and allows us to be able to receive both criticism and love from others. An imbalanced pericardium meridian makes us feel unprotected in the heart center and will cause us to look for other ways to protect the heart (e.g. by rounding off the shoulders, keeping our distance from others, building protective walls around us which are meant to keep others out but only end up making us feel separated and isolated within that fortress we have built).

Please refer to the blog for a fuller description of the Pericardium's role, a description of its course through the body, a list of possible symptoms you might be encountering if this meridian is out of balance, and a list of recommendations to reduce possible symptoms and balance the pericardium meridian.
