Welcome to new MEAM Approach areas

A very warm welcome to Calderdale, Durham, Newham, North Devon and Peterborough, who have joined the MEAM Approach network.

Ask the Network Series 

MEAM is producing a series of recordings and blogs focused on multiple disadvantage and COVID-19.

This week, we spoke to Dr Emma Williamson from the South London and Maudsley NHS Trust about mental health support for people experiencing multiple disadvantage and the people who support them.

Latest policy news - COVID-19

Government fast tracks housing plans for rough sleepers 

The government has announced accelerated plans for long-term housing for people sleeping rough who have been accommodated in COVID-19 provision. The government aims to make 3,300 housing units available this year, with £52m extra for associated support services. 

Rough Sleeping Taskforce calls on community partners

Dame Louise Casey, head of the rough sleeping taskforce, has called on communities, businesses, charities and faith groups, to join forces and help their work going forward.

Operational advice released for substance misuse in emergency accommodation 

Advice has been released from Public Health England for the management of alcohol, drugs and nicotine in emergency accommodation for people experiencing rough sleeping.

Housing, Communities and Local Government Committee reports on rough sleeping

The HCLG Committee has published a report on coronavirus, rough sleeping and the private rental sector, calling for a £100m housing support fund in order to take advantage of the opportunity to end rough sleeping. 

Sobriety tag legislation comes into force

Legislation allowing the use of sobriety tags has come into force this week. A national roll-out is expected later this year.

Updated advice for house moves

The government has updated its advice for people moving house at this time.

Latest homelessness statistics published

The latest quarterly statistics on homelessness have been published for Q4, 2019. It shows a year-on-year increase of 5.7% in the numbers of households in temporary accommodation.

Latest from Clinks

Clinks has published a blog with details about how HMPPS plans to ease lockdown restrictions within prisons and probation. There is also an in-depth update on the new dynamic framework for the future probation system.  

Homeless Link Updates

Homeless Link has issued its transition paper, "Everyone In For Good," outlining the steps the government should take in the next stage of the COVID-19 response to ensure rough sleeping ends for good. 

Mind research

Mind has published research about the impact Coronavirus is having on access to mental health services. 

Collective Voice News

Collective Voice has relaunched the Slack Community "Making a Difference Together" for colleagues interested in closer collaboration for people experiencing drug and alcohol problems.

Civil Society 

Civil Society has collated a list of some of the funding being made available for charities during the COVID-19 emergency.

Charity Excellence Framework

CEF has created a free Covid-19 searchable funder database along with assessment and toolkits.
Learning Opportunities

FEANTSA morning bites webinar

FEANTSA will be holding short webinars on Wednesday mornings at 9am related to ongoing practice development and learning.

Clinks Annual Conference goes digital

Clinks will hold its annual conference "Making all the difference" on Monday, 29 June from 9.30am - 6pm.  

Homeless Link webinars

Homeless Link are holding weekly webinars on Wednesdays to keep the sector updated.

On Thursday, May 28th, at 2.30pm, there will be a webinar on "Ensuring digital inclusion for those experiencing homelessness - During the Covid-19 crisis and beyond"

On Tuesday, June 2nd, at 10am, there will be a webinar on "Outreach skills and COVID-19"

On July 8th and 9th, there will be a two-day online Rough Sleeping Conference.
