  • Dr. Kevin Boswell and Dr. Heather Bracken-Grissom have received a new award from Nova Southeastern University to explore the trends and drivers of faunal abundance in the offshore Gulf of Mexico: narrowing the largest data gap in the Gulf’s large marine ecosystem.
  • Dr. Mark Bond has received a new award from the Wildlife Conservation Society to assess artisanal fisheries in Haiti, with a goal of improved management.
  • Dr. Edward Castaneda has received a new award from the DOI-NPS to assess recovery trajectories and resilience capacity of mangrove forests in the Everglades National Park as a result of hurricane impacts.
  • Dr. Christian Cox has received a new award from the National Science Foundation to study the evolutionary reversals in hormonal modulation of growth-regulatory gene networks. 
  • Dr. Elizabeth Anderson has received a new award from the Wildlife Conservation Society to identify freshwater conservation targets and monitor freshwater systems in the Amazon Basin.
  • Dr. Jayantha Obeysekera has received a new award from the South Florida Water Management District to study the impacts of climate change and sea level rise on the SFWMD agency mission.
  • Dr. Jennifer Rehage has received a new award by the US Army Corps of Engineers to study the role of marsh-mangrove interface habitats as aquatic refuges for wetlands.

In this series, we will share Rookery Bay’s successful conservation approach to get the right information to the right people in the right way. Some workshops require a registration fee, but student scholarships are available. 

The first learning webinar is June 18 at 1PM titled “Mosquito control and a healthy environment: the delicate balance at Rookery Bay.” The first skill building workshop is June 30 & July 1 titled “Social science basics- Understanding stakeholders and asking effective survey questions.”

The Everglades Foundation is seeking qualified applicants for the Everglades Foundation Scholarships. These scholarships are open to full-time graduate students from all academic institutions pursuing degrees in the sciences and engineering. Applicants will be evaluated based on their research impact and relevance to Everglades restoration. Cross-disciplinary research efforts are of special interest.

FIU graduate students pursuing Everglades restoration-related research are also eligible for the FIU ForEverglades Scholarship. This scholarship will be awarded to full-time graduate students enrolled in or accepted for admission to FIU who are pursuing Everglades restoration-related research
