Easter 2015,
when the Pisankaha church was destroyed
UPDATE ON NYARAFOLO SCRIPTURE-IN-USE
The COVID-19 virus did not reach Nyarafolo territory, as far as anyone knows!  The restrictions on gatherings have been lifted in the north, and schools have reopened.
During the weeks of restrictions the team devoted themselves to preparing more literature for new readers: editing transcrip-tions of oral folk tales, translating booklets on health and biblical themes, and working towards translating a Sunday School curriculum.
They also continued to meet with some small groups of enthusiastic learners in town churches, or else called them by phone to help them read through a text.

Now they are reopening literacy classes. Kifory reports that at Tiepogovogo a "mass" of people want to sign up. It is exciting to hear about the hunger to learn to read!
Tenidihe sent us the video below of a young man reading Exodus 2:20-22. He is from the church in Ferke in the Gare district,. Tenidihe wrote that this fellow has said he thirsts to read the Word in Nyarafolo, because although he can read French, he doesn't understand the biblical text in French. And naturally, this is a huge encouragement for Tenidihe!

Dear Companions of the Road,            May 26, 2020

Many of you remember the attack on the Pisankaha church on Easter, five years ago, when the local Sacred Forest (Poro) angrily destroyed the church building and several homes of believers. The church had held a celebration wake the night before, with much singing, and this had evidently "disrupted" a Poro ceremony.
In the headline photo above, Glenn and I were visiting them 3 1/2 years later to say goodby, and to give them this panel to eventually hang in their new church when they might finally have permission to rebuild. The verse on it is Philippians 1:6 in Nyarafolo: "being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." (NIV)
THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THEY FINALLY HAVE PERMISSION TO REBUILD THEIR CHURCH! We just received this news from Pastor Fouhoton Pierre (Tiepogovogo) who wants you all to know!
Hats off to the leaders of the AEBECI (the Association of Evangelical Baptist Churches in Côte d’Ivoire) who have spent these years working to achieve consensus among all those involved and the governmental agencies, so that these believers can once again build a meeting place. And blessings on these faithful Pisankaha Jesus-followers who have waited so patiently, staying firm in their faith, and either traveling to attend other churches or meeting in the village under the trees (as above)! And praise to the Lord, who is indeed continuing his good work among them!
We want to assure those of you who gave funds to help them rebuild that all of that money was set aside for just that purpose and is available to them. They had begun to purchase the necessary construction materials in late 2018, but the negotiations took longer than even they expected. We are just thrilled that they can move forward!
Do join in prayer for them, that they would be protected and that their light might shine bright to all those around them!

GOOD NEWS FOR THE NYARAFOLO TEAM TOO! Now that most of the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted in the area, the team is able to move ahead both with their projects and with organizing themselves as a non-profit association, under the AEBECI. This is new territory for them. Please pray that they would have good information and wisdom as they pursue all that is involved.

     Praising the Lord with you,
                                Linn, for Glenn too
