Good Morning

I do not think that anybody could have predicted how the financial year to 31 March 2020 would end, with New Zealand – like many other countries in the world – in lockdown, due to the impact of COVID-19.

Today I have the pleasure in sending you the narrative written for our 2019-2020 Annual Report.

Once our accounts have been audited and the HortNZ Board has met to approve them, we will match the accounts up with the narrative and publish the Annual Report in the usual fashion in August.  (Please note our Annual General Meeting is now set down for 25 September in Pukekohe)

We made the decision to send you the narrative ahead of the financials because the narrative tells a comprehensive story about what HortNZ does for growers, working closely with product groups, district associations and growers.  We also felt that you would appreciate the communication given that we will not be publishing The Orchardist and NZGrower again until the first week of August 2020.

I hope you will agree with me that the Annual Report is an interesting read and good summary of the past year’s activity, culminating in an event that will have a lasting impact on the world and horticulture in New Zealand.

HortNZ looks forward to continuing to work with you as our industry identifies opportunities and responds to the challenges brought on by COVID-19, in New Zealand and in our export markets.

If you would like to provide feedback on the work of HortNZ, please email me: Mike.Chapman@hortnz.co.nz or call me on 027 487 4264.

Regards

Mike Chapman
HortNZ Chief Executive
