Covid-19 and the MSA
Thank you.
It is awe-inspiring to have witnessed the work that has taken place over the past two months. Seeing South Island physicians and Island Health staff and leadership come together to prepare for COVID-19 has been humbling and energizing.
It is also a good reminder that barriers – cultural, administrative, logistic, clinical, and otherwise – can often be brought down through innovation, teamwork, and willingness. Let’s continue to be open to possibilities, to find the natural inclination to say ‘yes’.
What we have done
Your MSA has worked hard to support physician needs over this time. We have:
- Advocated through Doctors of BC and Island Health for compensation for Medical Leaders who provided service ‘above
and beyond’ their regular contracted scope and hours.
- Voiced concerns of and for physicians whose Fee for Service income dwindled during the clinical shutdown.
- Provided regular communications directly to your inbox through Information Organizers.
- Financially compensated COVID preparation work that Divisions, Departments, and individuals undertook for the collective good,
through Facility Engagement funds.
- Facilitated social supports for all facility-and community-based physicians on Vancouver Island
- Worked closely with Island Health to ensure South Island physicians could access Island Health Townhalls, communications,
and funding opportunities.
Looking forward
We now need to normalize our activities and get back to our regular business. While this may look somewhat different than previously, please know that your MSA has its members at top of mind.
Now that we are out of COVID Crisis Mode, all requests for funding will happily be considered through the normal application and approval process. Please submit your applications for funding through members.southislandmsa.ca and we’ll be sure to take it forward to our Working Group.
