These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for Education in conjunction with UK universities to support world class research and to contribute to UK higher education and research to help sustain international recognition of the UK higher education system and for the benefit of wider society. The CSC does not offer scholarships to candidates from high income Commonwealth countries who have already started their PhD study in the UK.

🆕 2020-21 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF) competition
Launched by the Vanier-Banting Secretariat, this program offers funding for individuals with PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree completion between September 15, 2017 and September 30, 2021 (inclusively) and is open to both Canadian and international researchers.
Value & duration
- $70,000 per year (taxable)
- 2 years (non-renewable)
Process to apply
Nominations must be endorsed by the University of Saskatchewan and will be reviewed internally throughout the application development process to determine suitability for final submission to the Vanier-Banting Secretariat. The University of Saskatchewan timeline.
Key dates
- July 3, 2020 – 8:00 am (CST): Deadline for submission of U of S Notification of Intent (NOI). Please see the attached NOI form for details as well as the full competition timeline. Nominees will be notified by July 17th if they have been selected to proceed to the full application stage.
- August 12, 2020 – 8:00 am (CST): Deadline for submission of full application for internal review and recommendation. Nominees will be notified by August 24th if their application is suitable for submission to the national competition.
- October 1, 2020 – 8:00am (EDT): Deadline for submission to the Vanier-Banting Secretariat. Competition results are expected in mid-February 2020.

🆕 Eligibility changes to NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships program
NSERC is removing the one-per-lifetime restriction on applications to the NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowships (PDF) program. For the 2021 competition year (application deadline October 19, 2020), unsuccessful applicants from previous competitions will be able to apply again, provided they still meet all other eligibility criteria.

Grants of $100,000 to $250,000 to Advance Indigenous Gender Equality
Indigenous Innovation Initiative seeks bold ideas that will advance equality for Indigenous peoples across Canada, including First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in urban, rural, remote, and Northern regions.
Approaches must be grounded in Indigenous community, culture and ways of knowing and being and apply a gender lens in its considerations on equality. Indigenous women and gender diverse innovators and Indigenous women and gender diverse-led projects will be given priority.

The Discovery Grants Program assists in:
- promoting and maintaining a diversified base of high-quality research capability in the natural sciences and engineering in Canadian universities;
- fostering research excellence;

Wednesday, July 15th: Submit Intention to Apply/Request for Internal Review Form (attached) for NSERC DG and RTI to grant.review@usask.ca indicating ‘Lastname NSERC DG/RTI’ in the subject heading. We recommend that DG applicants ask their internal reviewers to also provide feedback on their RTI application (if applying for RTI). We would like to ask all DG and RTI applicants to submit this form.

The Publications Fund offers modest support towards scholarly and creative works published by University of Saskatchewan faculty. A faculty member can submit one request in either of the following categories:
• up to $1,500 to assist in Publishing costs;
• up to $1,500 for a formal Book Publication Subvention; or
• up to $1,500 for Other Scholarly and Artistic Works as defined in the guidelines.

- PhD students can complete a three-year project (minimum $72,000 stipend)
