Weekly Update May 19, 2020

A survey has been emailed regarding how the church might begin meeting again in person on a limited basis, possibly beginning on Sunday, June 7. Please know that our number one priority is the safety of everyone in our community, our church family, and most especially our most vulnerable.  The consensus of the planning group is that our first in-person gathering would need to be outdoors. We have two options open to us — a drive-in service or an outdoor service on the lawn. The drive-in service would require everyone to remain in their own vehicle.  The outdoor service on the lawn would require everyone to wear masks and observe physical distancing. In either case, there will be no bathroom access, no group singing, and children will need to remain with their immediate family.  These conditions are necessary in order to maintain the safety of everyone involved.  We recommend and encourage everyone in the vulnerable population not to attend. Your input is important to us as we work to transition back to in-person worship. The survey closes this Friday at midnight. The staff will be meeting with the Deacon Chair and Parish Nurse Chair next week to discuss the responses and decide a course of action.

This week’s offering totaled $7,415.00 Thank you!

Memorial Day Sunday is this week. We will have a remembrance in this Sunday’s video service with the names being read and a chime for everyone who has passed in the last 12 months. This week’s service will have a Front Porch slideshow, and Justin Webb will bring the message.

The church offices will be closed Monday, May 25, for Memorial Day.

Graduation Sunday is next week, May 31. This year, we have two high school graduates, and would like to honor all our graduates in the video for that Sunday. If you have a college graduate, please send a picture along with the name of the school and the degree earned to roger@boilingspringsbaptist.org by next Monday, May 25. Thank you!

BSBC Youth and their Families: The Youth will be beginning a summer bible study and their summer schedule on Monday, June 1. Jeremiah Hamby will be meeting over Zoom with the Youth on Wednesday, May 27, at 6:00 p.m. and the Youth Parents at 6:45 p.m. to discuss the plans for the summer. Important information will be given out that night, so all Youth and Parents should attend their meeting if at all possible. A link will be sent out over GroupMe for the Youth and email for the Parents that afternoon for the meeting. If anyone has any questions, they can contact Jeremiah by phone (828-499-1398) or email (jhamby2@gardner-webb.edu).

The Coed 3 Sunday School Class, led by Ben and Anna McDaniel and Ed and Sybil Beason, has begun meeting via Zoom each Sunday at 10:00 am.  If you would like to join them, contact Ben by text at 828-289-4595 or by email at beemac1986@gmail.com. Online Sunday School classes have been a great way to have a Sunday worship experience together and stay connected in general. Contact your teacher if your class is meeting and you have been out of the loop. If you would like to visit another class online, please contact the teacher of the class you are interested in.

The Prayer List is being emailed to everyone who receives the Weekly Update. It will not be shared on social media, and we ask that you do not share as it contains personal information. Please direct anyone who is out of the loop to send their email address to the church office.

Online Giving is being highly effective for our church. You may give to the general budget, Food Pantry, youth and children's programs, missions, and more. Text BSBC to 73256 for a link to the same site to donate by phone. You may call the church office on Monday mornings to give with a credit card.

If you are willing to make a grocery store or pharmacy trip for those who are especially vulnerable and should not leave home at all, please let the church office know. Likewise, if you are in need, please call. The office number is 704-434-6244.

Social distancing is still important! A person can be contagious without showing symptoms. Here are a few helpful links to find the latest information: CDC coronavirus page; CDC page for at-risk populations; NC Dept. of Health and Human Services coronavirus page. You may Dial 2-1-1 or text COVIDNC to 898211 to receive general information and updates from the NCDHHS. Please pray for our national, state, and local leaders as they navigate this difficult time.

Old Church Windows are still available for $15.00, bulk quantities are $10.00 each. If you have picked up a window, please remember to pay for it. These make good stay-at-home wall art projects.

Zoom has become the app of choice for many Sunday School classes and other meetings both at BSBC and elsewhere. If you receive a link for a Zoom meeting, that link will take you to the Zoom website, help you install Zoom, and then take you right to your meeting. If you have a meeting ID number instead of a link, you can join the meeting through the Zoom website (https://www.zoom.us/join). Zoom is easy to use, and user tutorials are available here https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206618765-Zoom-Video-Tutorials
