Dear Friends and Supporters of the Farm Alliance of Baltimore,

The Farm Alliance of Baltimore is pleased to announce the creation of an Urban Agriculture Resilience Fund for Baltimore’s urban farming community. “Local farms and community gardens are essential infrastructure, and without them, we would lose the nutritious fresh food and community hubs that they provide,” said Mariya Strauss, Executive Director of the Farm Alliance of Baltimore.

This fund of $92,000 in initial funding was established with support from the Baltimore Community Foundation (BCF), the Abell Foundation, the Jacob and Hilda Blaustein Foundation, the Rauch Foundation, the Bernard Family Fund at T. Rowe Price Charitable, and the France-Merrick Foundation.  The Farm Alliance has established this fund to support farms and gardens in the city who are doing the critical work of building food security during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With your help, we can go even further in supporting urban farms to survive the pandemic. Farm Alliance has already begun purchasing tools such as broadforks, mesh strainers, and other wash station supplies for farms. We have set up an online application form for farms to apply for direct assistance.

Those wishing to contribute to the Urban Agriculture Resilience Fund may make checks out to:

Farm Alliance of Baltimore, 4709 Harford Rd, Baltimore MD 21214. Please put COVID Fund in the memo line.If you would like to make a one time or monthly recurring donation to the Farm Alliance of Baltimore, please use this link.

With this fund, Farm Alliance can now provide for its member farms:

  • Personal Protective Equipment

  • Marketing staffing and support

  • Food-safe packaging for produce

  • Tools

  • Sanitation Equipment

  • Potting Soil and high-grade compost

  • Seeds and seedlings

  • Infrastructure assistance such as repairs and installation work to keep farms operating

  • Emergency cash assistance

“We are grateful to these philanthropic groups for their rapid response to the emergency needs that our member farms have during the pandemic,” said Strauss. The Farm Alliance wishes to thank the Baltimore City Food Policy Director’s Office and the City Office of Sustainability for their cooperation and advocacy on behalf of urban agriculture during this time.

“Above all, we want to thank Baltimore’s farmers and gardeners who are continuing bravely to produce food in our city during this difficult time,” Strauss added. “It is our privilege to serve them.”
