A stronger centre – message from the centre leader

When we are applying the Research Council of Norway for five new years, we are strengthening the centre with NMBU, SINTEF, Oslo University Hospital and UiT The Arctic University of Norway as full partners in addition to NTNU, UiO and UiB.

We are happy to see that also others are looking forward to this. Morten Dæhlen, who is dean at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the University of Oslo, has blogged about the DLN centre and its importance for creating strong national collaboration.
Read his blog “Norway needs several years of ‘digital life’" (in Norwegian).

THE DIGITAL LIFE FOOTPRINT

New digital life project presentations available in English and Norwegian.

EcoGene

Biological, ecological and economic implications of gene editing in animal production.
What are the implications of using the gene editing tool CRISPR in animal production? Researchers at NMBU want to get the whole picture. Read about the project.

EV-LiquidBiopsy

Categorising cancer through biomarkers in extracellular vesicles (EV).
Researchers at Oslo University Hospital look at biomarkers in extracellular vesicles in urine to develop a clinical tool to identify and categorise prostate cancer. Read about the project.

AML_PM

Improved treatments of acute myeloid leukaemias by personalised medicine.
Getting the right treatment on the first attempt is important for long-term survival of acute myeloid leukaemia. Researchers at the University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital are using big data and machine learning to develop a diagnostic tool for this purpose. Read about the project.

UPCOMING ACTIVITIES IN THE RESEARCH SCHOOL

COMMON GROUND

Upcoming trial lecture and PhD defence

PhD student Jacqueline Weidner in the AHA! project – Adaptive Heuristics and Architecture at the University of Bergen has been modelling hormonal control of behaviour and growth in juvenile fish.
Trial lecture on Zoom 4 June: “Animal learning in changing environments”.
Defence of the PhD thesis 29 June if approved by committee: “Modelling fish growth under hormonal regulation as a factor in pace of life”
Both events are streamed on YouTube. Check uib.no for upcoming information.

APPLY FOR FUNDING

DLN funding for project collaboration on research: Cross-project activities

The possibility of harvesting synergies between the various sets of expertise within the centre's projects is one of the benefits of being part of the centre. To stimulate this, we have made available resources to support cross-project activities. Examples of such activities could be exchange of competence, methods, small pilot projects, workshops, research visits etc. This is also a good opportunity to involve researchers and postdocs in the project.
Open-ended deadline. Read more about the funding for cross-project activities.

DLN innovation funding

The centre´s research projects can apply for financial support for activities necessary to progress in the innovation process of the projects, such as: business idea scouting and/or definition, market validation, customer exploration, business modelling, partner search, development of research-based advice to practitioners or policy-makers etc. The funding can be used for hiring external expertise or for costs related to traveling to meet with potential customers, users, partners etc.
Open-ended deadline. Read more about the innovation funding.

Other funding opportunities

Various calls for proposals from the Research Council of Norway PreSeed funding, BioInnovation Institute, Denmark, deadline 4 June

The Olav Thon Foundation prizes and grants 2021
