Devotion for Thursday, May 21st

My Church
Gaston and Susan K. McIntire
I have a very special place in my heart for Winter Park Presbyterian Church. It has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Winter Park started as an off shoot of First Presbyterian Church and my grandparents began having Sunday School classes in their home on the corner of Wrightsville Avenue and McMillan. Eventually, from that small group, WPPC was founded. Grandmother and Granddaddy McIntire and their six children spent lots of Sundays at Church.

Even as a child, when my family moved to Florida, we would always attend Winter Park when we came to visit relatives. Bobby and I moved back here with the boys in 1982 and there was no question about where our church home would be. We headed straight for the corner of Wrightsville and Kerr Avenues.

I’ve been missing my church these last 10 weeks or so since this pandemic has wreaked havoc on the world. Although I know that we can all worship God without being in a physical structure, I believe that God wants us to gather together, to minister to each other, to pray and sing together, to study the Bible together and to serve others’ needs.

But wait! Isn’t that what we’re doing now, even though we’re not physically inside our church sanctuary and Sunday School rooms? It might be a different kind of “being together” but we are still singing, praying, studying and serving others through the emails that Emile is sending out daily. It’s a whole lot of work for the church staff, but while we are working and planning to open the church safely at some point in the future, it’s the next best thing to actually being together.
I think this is really what My Church is - it’s the people who actually make up a church, people who believe that God is always in control and that we should strive daily to follow Jesus’ teachings. Romans 8:28 says “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose”.

Maybe we’ll never know exactly what God’s plan is for us, but we can rest assured that God will be well pleased with us when we are singing praises to Him, no matter where we are.

"This Is My Father's World" - Virtual Choir Project

Friends, we are starting another Virtual Choir project.  This one will be for worship in 2 weeks.

You don't have to play the ukulele or be a member of our Chancel Choir to participate!  Just record yourself singing!

How to participate:

1.  Watch this video of Sharon singing:
"This Is My Father's World" - Base Track
2.   Download this copy of the music for the song:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=10RJWi0mLCBrHdkUgLAXQlPGo8TpH7e4Q

3.  Make a recording of you singing this song in sync with Sharon.

Sing any part!  (Sharon is singing harmony during portions of the recording)

To record in sync with Sharon, you will need two devices:
  1. One phone or tablet to listen to the song video as you play along
  2. and a second camera/phone/tablet to record the video of you singing.
(PLEASE wear headphones while recording.  This makes it much more likely that  you will be in sync and makes the editing process easier.)

4.  Then share the file with Emile by Google Drive, Drop Box or another file-sharing service.  (The video will be too large to text or e-mail.  If you need help, please ask!)

The deadline to send me a video will be Thursday, May 21st at 5pm.   After that I will begin editing the video together - and it is difficult add a late video after I've begun work.

5.  Call or text Emile to make sure I got the video.  (Sometimes file transfers don't work the first time - especially if you've not sent a file to me before.  I REALLY don't want to accidentally leave out someone who recorded a song!)

Thank you all!  The more voices the better!
