FROM THE BOARD

PEIWI continues to encourage modifications and creativity to conduct branch business within the phase-in period on PEI.

The PEIWI office is also preparing to re-open using COVID-19 compliant operational guidelines.

Office Hours:  PEIWI is requesting branch members and members of the public to make appointments for the next reopening phase to adhere to PEIWI and Royalty Centre operational guidelines.   (This will also assist in coordinating efforts, as staff is involved with the mask project outside of the office.)  The WI office, located at 40 Enman Crescent, is a government building, as such it adheres to strict guidelines and public access is limited.  If you require anything from the office, please do not hesitate to contact us in advance at wi@gov.pe.ca or by phone at 902-368-4860 to ensure we can assist you in a timely manner.

The WI office will have procedures in place for your safety such as signing in (to ensure contact tracing should it be needed), barrier systems, hand sanitizing stations, and distancing measure signage. Until completion, curbside deliveries may take place.

PEIWI SPECIAL COVID-19 PROJECTS and INFORMATION

1) MASK PROJECT

-
 QEH Foundation Partnership Announcement!

Thanks to donations and the continued effort of our members volunteering to sew, we are excited to announce the Mask Project will be expanding.

In a three-way partnership between the QEH Foundation, PEI Women's Institute, and PEI Mask+Aide, masks will now also be available for purchase online through the QEH Foundation's website starting June 1.  100% of the proceeds will go direct to the QEH Foundation for medical equipment.

The Mask Project is still committed to serve vulnerable communities requesting donated masks, but are pleased this fundraiser will fill gaps from the cancellation of our annual WI Spring Is in the Air Gala dinner and assist to outfit large groups at the same time.

The expansion will allow masks to be available for purchase by businesses, large families and organizations.

Mask Packages will be available in quantities of 10, 25, 50 or 100 with 100% of sales going directly to the QEH Foundation to assist in purchasing "Ease Back" medical equipment for the QEH. This new fundraising direction will assist with gaps left after the cancellation of the WI Spring Is in the Air Gala dinner.

The QEH Foundation reacted to unexpected and urgent equipment needs by raising funds for the QEH to outfit dedicated COVID-19 units. As the QEH transitions to the "Ease Back" Phase of the COVID-19 response, additional equipment is needed to ensure the safety of patients and staff while upholding the Chief Health Officer's physical distancing directives.

Funds raised through mask sales will contribute to the purchase two Scavenging Nitrous Oxide Systems, one for the pediatrics unit and another for Labour & Delivery. The new systems will allow for the use of nitrous oxide, which has been restricted at the QEH due to concerns related to COVID-19 transmission. Nitrous oxide is not only used for sedation and pain relief during childbirth but is also administered as inhalation medication for children undergoing painful procedures.

If you are interested in continuing or joining in on making masks, directions and accessory kits (in packages of 10 or 25) are still available on Mondays at our drive thru in Milton and Vernon River.  Please contact Sheila if you have specific needs (see links below for contact information). Additional contacts are updated in the links below.

WI HANDCRAFT, HORTICULTURE AND ARTS SHOW - as you may be aware Old Home Week and exhibitions have been cancelled for 2020.  This will allow a longer preparation time for exhibitors for the 2021 show, as PEIWI is already in the planning stages!

Board and Branch events - Plans are underway for branch and board events this fall - we will be in touch with more details in the September newsletter!

In the meantime, watch for Argyle Shore WI's Strawberry Social on July 6 as they work through their plan.  Fairley Yeo, from Knutsford WI, is also working on their annual fall tea event!

Again, we encourage all to use the operational plan template provided by the PEI government to guide the set up of your event or meeting.

In keeping with traditions, this will be our last newsletter until September.  Have a great and safe summer.
