Athletic Improvements Race Forward
Promised bond-funded facility upgrades continue to be delivered
While school buildings are closed and spring sports are canceled, athletic facility improvements funded by the community-approved school bond measure continue in anticipation of students' return for the 2020–21 school year and beyond.
One much-needed improvement is the replacement of turf surfaces at North Eugene and South Eugene High School, Spencer Butte Middle School and Arts & Technology Academy this spring and summer. Synthetic turf fields provide durable, low-maintenance, all-weather playing surfaces, but as with all materials they wear over time and the turf must be replaced periodically. The new turf will provide student athletes safe and high-quality playing surfaces for many years to come.
Another key project is the addition of a new softball field at North Eugene High School. The new softball field will be constructed near the baseball field, southwest of the existing NEHS building. The new high-quality softball field will be a welcome addition to the North Eugene region for use both during construction of the new high school and after students move to the new building in 2023.
Athletic facility improvement projects this spring and summer include:
- New softball field at North Eugene High School
- Baseball storage area at Churchill High School
- Baseball netting at South Eugene High School
- Gym door improvements at Sheldon High School
- Gym floors at Arts & Technology Academy, Chávez Elementary School, Gilham Elementary School, Holt Elementary School, Kennedy Middle School, Madison Middle School, River Road/El Camino del Río Elementary School and the Willard swing school site
- Turf replacements at Arts & Technology Academy, Spencer Butte Middle School, North Eugene High School and South Eugene High School
Thanks to your support of the 2018 school bond measure, the Eugene School District will be able to deliver on our promise to provide more equitable athletic opportunities and other improvements for every student in the district.
