Hello from the Rector

Dear friends,

Happy Ascension Day!

This week we are joining in with the Global Wave of Prayer Thy Kingdom Come from Ascension Day until Pentecost, read this article here about what we're doing in our parishes: http://bcjj.org.uk/2020/05/20/thy-kingdom-come-join-us-for-the-stations-of-the-spirit-each-day-from-ascension-day-to-pentecost/

Please join us for our online live service for Ascension Day on our church website or Facebook Group this evening at 7pm (Thurs 21st May) - it will be available to view again after this time. I will be live but I will be adding some prerecorded elements - including two hymns played by Tom and Sarah Morton. Please do join us for this special festival service.

We will meet again for coffee at 11am on Sunday after morning worship on Zoom (provided it doesn't crash again! It wasn't us, it was a global problem when it didn't work last week so do persevere this week). Do give it a try, if you don't have access to the internet you can dial in to one of the phone numbers provided below and join in the meeting over the phone:

I am taking a week's holiday from Monday 25th - Friday 29th May for refreshment. Please, however, do contact me if there is an emergency, I will be at home (of course) and available.

I have created a dedicated Youtube channel for all our parishes' services (I was previously using my personal channel) so please do click on 'subscribe' on it to get notified when a new video goes up. On Sundays you can either go straight to Youtube or if you find it simpler, visit our website (as usual, the link will also be shared on Facebook).

I know some people are a little unfamiliar with Youtube and the things you can do to make the picture bigger etc. Please watch the short video below to find out how to add subtitles and make the video fill your screen when watching on our church website or on YouTube.

See you online soon, every blessing,

Bryony

Let us pray:

Keep us, good Lord,
under the shadow of your mercy
in this time of uncertainty and distress.
Sustain and support the anxious and fearful,
and lift up all who are brought low;
that we may rejoice in your comfort
knowing that nothing can separate us from your love
in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Amen.

Do you have friends and relatives who don’t use the internet?

This new phone line nicely complements our Dial a Sermon system so now you can attend church over the phone!

For Rev’d Bryony’s sermon of the week from the parishes of Barlborough and Clowne dial 01246 388487.

For hymns and prayers and the national Sunday service dial 0800 804 8044, read more here: https://www.churchofengland.org/more/media-centre/news/archbishop-canterbury-launches-free-dial-worship-phone-line-during

While our churches are closed we cannot receive all the monetary gifts we usually do, here’s how you can help by joining the Parish Giving Scheme and giving by Direct Debit.

A regular gift really helps our cash flow, prevents the need for us to count cash and go to the bank (thereby keeping us safe) and the scheme automatically claims Gift Aid.

It gives all of us peace of mind – you’re not worrying about your envelopes with your cash gift piling up while church is closed and we’re not worrying about loss of income – it’s a win win!

Thank you for your help. Click here for more details: http://bcjj.org.uk/2020/04/28/giving-to-church-during-the-pandemic-and-beyond/
