Delivering Hope During Uncertain Times

by Bill Krick  | Literature Ministries Director, Pacific Union

Students at SOULS West, Pacific Union’s evangelism training school located in Prescott, Arizona, are partnering with Pacific Press Publishing Association to help deliver hope.

Because of necessary quarantines, the school is holding all classes by video conference during the spring quarter. Teachers and students are continuing to experience a sense of community via cyberspace. However, they wanted to do something to send hope to people in areas particularly hard hit by COVID-19.

With help from Pacific Press, SOULS West students are raising funds to send more than 30,000 copies of The Great Hope, an abridged, modern-language version of the classic The Great Controversy, to disease-ravaged Los Angeles. The detached mailing program that Pacific Press operates with the U.S. Postal Service also includes a postcard-sized flyer accompanying any bulk book mailing. Local churches can customize the content of this card.

“This is a great way to reach people in this current situation,” says Westney White, director of SOULS West.  “People are looking for hope and certainty.  Students are able to do something for people, and raise funds for their tuition at the same time.”

Dan Wegh, Pacific Press director of marketing and special projects, said: “In these unsettling times people are looking for answers. Our mission at Pacific Press is to provide books that bring hope and stability by pointing them to Jesus."

Publishing Leader Travels in Ecuador Delivering Hope

by Almir Marroni  | Publishing Ministries Director, General Conference
Ecuador is one of the countries that has been highly affected by COVID-19. Many lockdown restrictions have been put in place, limiting movement in the country. This obstacle did not prevent Adrian Segui, Publishing Ministries director of Ecuador Union, from traveling to visit literature evangelists to give them encouragement and food during the crisis.

For three days, Segui drove more than 4,000 miles (7,000 km) to visit as many literature evangelists (LEs) as possible in the South Ecuador Mission. The trip was so fast paced that there was only time to get clean and disinfected before departing to the next destination. Because of lockdown measures, even sleeping was done in the car, on the road between destinations.

The visit was a surprise to most LEs, who were overjoyed to receive encouraging words and groceries. On a previous trip, Segui had visited about 80 percent of literature evangelists from the North Ecuador Mission. He plans to organize another trip soon to visit the remaining LEs.
