Celebrating Laudato Si’ Week: “everything is interconnected”

Five years ago this month, Pope Francis launched his ground breaking encyclical “Laudato Si’ – On Care for our Common Home.” As the world emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic, the message of Laudato Si’, that all of life is interconnected, is a timely reminder of the need for coordinated action to overcome interrelated environmental, economic and social crises.

From 16 to 24 May, Caritas is encouraging Catholics and all people of goodwill to take greater steps to care for our common home, through online trainings and practical action where possible, to celebrate Laudato Si’ Week. Caritas members and partners around Oceania will join in tree-planting, clean-ups and promotional events during the week.

Celebrating 40 years of our diocese this Pentecost!

Pentecost is a big deal for the church, it’s an even bigger deal for the Diocese of Palmerston North as we are consecrated to the Holy Spirit. Our cathedral, the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, is a reminder of this consecration.

A special prayer of consecration was written for the diocese and it was renewed last year. You can download this prayer by clicking here.

Now, in our 40th year, we look back with thanks for the good things the Lord has enabled us to do as a diocesan community, and look ahead to dream of what other possibilities God has prepared.

The Upper Zoom: An online Diocesan Pentecost Celebration

As part of our celebrations on Pentecost Sunday there will be an inspiring time of prayer hosted online and led by people from across the whole diocese.

We invite you to gather in groups of 10 with your family, friends and parishioners in your homes and join in this opportunity to be united in the Spirit. Maybe you’d even like to share food together before or after the prayer, making a special moment of this celebration.

This will be a unique opportunity to pray together across the entire diocese, so you won't want to miss out! All welcome. More info and online link will be available next week at www.pndiocese.org.nz/pentecost. Save the date in your diaries now!

'The Upper Zoom': An online Diocesan Pentecost Celebration
