Are you brave enough to let your light shine this Sunday?

Turn on your video camera!

It was wonderful to participate with so many of you in last week's Lunch and Learn about Islam. One big plus: seeing so many of you. We would love to have more of you turn on your video camera this week so we can see each other. It makes a big difference.  At the beginning of Service, Cathy will ask if you want to participate please raise your hand, (little icon on the bottom of your screen.) You will then be added onscreen.

If you just want to see the speaker full screen, simply select "speaker view" not "gallery view" in the upper right-hand dropdown menu. So, change out of your PJs into something a bit more "public" and consider letting us see you this Sunday. We will have everyone "muted" so you don't have to worry if your dog barks! Think of it as an act of great service to our congregation. It will brighten our day to see you!

Note from Linda:

Ascension Wisdom:

A powerful way of reimagining the new normal

Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them (left them, withdrew from them) and was carried up into heaven.
Luke 24: 51

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up (lifted up), and a cloud received Him out of their sight.
Acts 1:9

The Gospel of Luke ends on Easter afternoon with what is known as the Ascension. But in the Book of Acts (written by the same person who wrote Luke) the Ascension takes place 40 days after Easter.  What's going on here? Was the author confused? Is this pure metaphysics or is something else happening? As we come to the end of an Eastertide season like no other in living memory, the ascension stories offer particularly poignant lessons for reimagining a "new normal." Each of us has an important role to play in bringing the "new normal" into being, so please join us Sunday as we glean from eternal Wisdom the powerful guidance of the Ascension stories.
I so look forward to spending time with you Sunday. This week please consider letting us see your beautiful face during our worship service by turning your video camera on (see above)! I can't wait to see you! Love, Linda

UCOG Board Update regarding in-person meetings:

At its regular May meeting, the UCOG Board discussed how/when to move back to in-person meetings. We all felt the time is not yet right for us.  It was decided that we would spend the next month:
  • discerning what criteria we would use to evaluate when it is safe to return to in-person meetings
  • discerning how/if the physical space at the Chamber can be conducive to social distancing recommendations
  • determining what additional measures would need to be in place to ensure the safety of our congregation.
With 75% of our active participants over 65, we constitute a group which has been deemed as a high-risk demographic for the COVID-19 virus. Our only concern is for the safety and well-being of all of our congregants, therefore, we will be extremely cautious in all determinations. We will be seeking in-put from our congregation in the next few weeks as to what you would need to feel safe in returning. There is no plan to return to in-person meetings as of this time. We will gather information and bring the topic up again at the June meeting. The Chamber waived our rent in May and we will be in conversation with the Chamber regarding our plans. To reiterate: the only driving force will be the safety and well-being of all of our congregants. If you have questions or concerns, please email us HERE.
