Glorious Spring Has Sprung!

Amy's Wing & A Prayer Nursery is bustling!  Every day more species are emerging from their winter's rest, flowers are beginning to pop, and trees are blossoming everywhere I look.  The birds are singing their amorous spring songs (or territorial songs, but I always want to assume the former!).  The giant queen bumblebees are buzzing, audible from many feet away.  And butterflies are arriving.

Our vegetable gardens and fruit orchards are making great progress thanks to the hard work of many helpers.  We've gotten peas, onions, leeks, shallots, spinach, carrots, beets, mesclun, potatoes, and shell beans planted.  This week week we'll get chard, lettuce, kale, broccoli, cabbage, and even some of the warm weather crops like cukes, peppers, and tomatoes thanks to this stretch of warm weather.  I can almost taste my first strawberry; I'm salivating just thinking about it.

Amy's nursery opening weekend was great.  The regular open days are Sundays and Mondays, 9-3, but several people made appointments for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday to have dedicated "solo time" to wander and consult with Amy.  It's wonderful to see so many returning plant and pollinator lovers!  If you're wanting to increase your pollinator habitat or just want some beautiful perennial plants for your gardens, be sure to stop by and browse.  The plants are beautiful and the prices are great.  My only sadness is that, at least for now, we won't be scheduling our beloved "Tea & Scones in the Garden" days because of the necessity for physical distancing.  I'll have to figure out some other way to sneak some treats out to you nursery customers!

This week we're excited to feature local asparagus, salad greens, cucumbers, kale, and rhubarb.  Can't wait to get cookin'!

Wing & A Prayer Nursery is open for business Sundays and Mondays, 9-3.  There is plenty of room to keep respectful social distance at the nursery.  Please bring a mask to wear if others are shopping at the same time.  I will have hand sanitizer available for financial transactions.  Let me know what else you might need to feel safe browsing and I'll do my best to make it happen.  As always, you are welcome to make an appointment (413-634-5659) on another day or outside my regular hours if you want to shop solo.  I can also take orders by phone and have the plants ready for pick-up if that option suits you better.  I'll be glad to see you soon and do what I can to make your gardens beautiful and your pollinators happy!

COVID-19 KITCHEN DETAILS:  No need to re-read if you already read it!
For those of you who order food, rest assured that we are using ever-vigilant practices to ensure the safety of our customers & crew.  We have plenty of soap and hand sanitizer for our kitchen crew; we have disinfectant spray that we use on surfaces; and all of your glass food containers are sterilized every week in an industrial sterilizer.  We are all wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing in the kitchen.  We have a safety protocol for food deliveries and pick-ups.  Please let me know if you have concerns or questions, or would like further details.  During the Covid-19 pandemic our menus will be a bit leaner due to the extra time required for our safety protocols and to a smaller crew because of increased physical distancing.  We're still proud to offer an abundance of choices.  Let me know if there are some old favorites you're longing for!
