Hi <<First Name>>

🗣 PST...check out the latest community news from across Port Stephens
The people of Port Stephens do amazing things every day. If you have a story you’d like us to feature, please get in touch — we’d love to hear from you!
A message from Mayor Ryan Palmer
While we haven’t travelled anywhere, the past few months have undoubtedly been a journey. COVID-19 has, without question, been one of the most uncertain and unusual challenges we’ve faced as individuals, families and a community.

I am incredibly proud of the way Port Stephens has followed the NSW Governments guidelines and adhered to restrictions to help keep us all safe and well. Your hard work has paid off as we become more active and focus on getting back to business from next week.

Many of our facilities and services will recommence or reopen form Monday, with libraries, boat ramps and our administration building some of the facilities opening. As always, the health and wellbeing of our community and staff is our highest priority, so we’ve developed a robust COVIDSafe plan to keep everyone protected from the risks of the virus.

I also encourage all of you to continue to follow the recommendations of the NSW Government and keep your distance from others, wash your hands and stay home if you’re unwell in any way. Please contact us on 4988 0255 if you have any other questions about Council’s services or if you need support.

Wishing you safety and good health,

Ryan
It's that time of year again!
Port Stephens residents are encouraged to have their say on Council’s performance in key areas by participating in the 2020 Community Satisfaction Survey.  The annual survey provides the community with an opportunity to rate Council’s services across a range of areas, including waste, facilities, parks and gardens and libraries.

The survey takes around 10 - 15 minutes to complete and is open until 5pm Friday 19 June 2020. Responses are anonymous and results will be published on the Council website in August 2020. AL479wp
Happy Volunteers Week
Last week was National Volunteers Week and we wanted to take this opportunity to say HUGE thank you to all those who volunteer in our community.

Port Stephens Council certainly couldn’t provide the range and quality of services we do for our community without the help of our wonderful volunteers.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Nicer views on Donald St
Last week saw the opening of Donald Street car park!

Members of the Tomaree Business Chamber, Leah and Peter came down to check out the car park during a small and socially distant opening with Council staff Anthony and Greg and Mayor of Port Stephens, Ryan Palmer.

This car park can accommodate 112 vehicles and is currently available for unrestricted parking.
Have your say
Get involved and help shape the future of Port Stephens.

Stinker's history
PSToday has joined forces with legendary local John 'Stinker' Clarke of the Tomaree Museum Association, who's providing us with some classic Port Stephens snapshots. Thanks Stinker!

The above photograph was taken in the 1890s and shows the three light keeping families of the day the Priests, Glovers and Lambournes. Completed in 1865 the residence for the Fingal Bay Outerlight was a first in architectural design. The structure was magnificent with sandstone blocks, transported from the Hawkesbury, forming the sturdy walls along with cedar beams, a slate roof and hand-made copper nails. Living on an island, the light keepers and their families became increasingly self-sufficient with a milking cow, a horse, vegetable gardens, an orchard and chickens.

Numerous lighthouse keepers and their families remained in the residence until 1973 when all keepers were made redundant leaving the residence in the control of a succession of caretakers.  Sadly the residence was destroyed, burnt to the ground, in 1991 taking with it many priceless stories about our history.
Ray Tay Public Domain Plan
Thanks so much to everyone that engaged and contributed to the Raymond Terrace Public Domain Plan and to those who got out there and snapped some photos. The above image from Chris was the winner!

The next steps? You will notice some town centre works beginning before the end of the year, in an effort to improve our public and community spaces!
Community flyer drop
The Tomaree Community Interagency has been extremely busy making sure people know about the community contacts and services that are still open and operating.

Keep an eye out in your letterbox, you might spy one of these helpful brochures soon.

Awesome work from TCI!
