Celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day!

Today, we're celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day! Our hope is to not only push innovation in accessibility even further, but use awareness to drive action of this important work. Make a stark difference.

Here are a few things we've learned along the way...

I am the user; I am not the user.

"This is when I remind myself that the more I like an idea, the more likely I am to ignore its faults. The beloved idea is the riskiest idea. This is when I remind myself that I am not the user."

Accessible design systems don't guarantee accessible products

"Instead, like most tasks of optimization, “enough” might be 70%? (or 90%? or 98%?) of audited and/or checklist requirements to form what seems objective measurement. Once you reach that threshold, can you declare success?."

Product

Otter.ai

Otter is a smart note-taking app that empowers you to remember, search, and share your voice conversations. Solid solution for user interviews. Folks talk about really loving the design, too.

UI Design 101

Kudos to Tregg, a designer that happens to have a colorblindness, for calling this out and pushing emphasis on people doing their job accordingly for him as a user. One thing that's often forgotten is that there's always a second number attached to a % when it comes to reading data. This is the Gap Instinct.

5% of anything seems small, but when we ask % of *what* we quickly realize the damage we're doing to our customers and company.
