The Fledgling--Week of May 22, 2020

Have you seen all of these articles online about how the pandemic is making everyone a bit wackier than usual? Earlier this week, the staff and I compared the ways in which we were dealing with what we dubbed "phantom email"--the phenomenon wherein you map out an email reply in your head, and therefore assume you have actually sent it, when in fact, you have not. (The reverse of this is also true--you forget responding to an email, and so just respond again, for good measure.)
These are strange times, and though our area is beginning to reopen, the pandemic is really still with us. And even for those of us who count ourselves lucky to have a safe place to shelter, food to eat, and health enough to get through, these are stressful times. Having to learn an entirely new way of being in society, and having to be conscious of a new set of dangers is a lot to adjust to--especially all at once.
This is all to say, give yourself permission to be a bit spacier than usual. If you forget an appointment, forgive yourself, and be generous if someone spaces on you. We're all trying to deal with a fair amount of free-floating anxiety and stress right now, and that will play out in lots of different ways.
As we seek to love our neighbor as ourselves, remember that this starts with giving ourselves the room to be fully human, in all our complexity. As you seek to extend compassion to others, make sure you include yourself in that compassion!
If you have a submission to the Fledgling, send it to the office by Thursday morning for inclusion on Friday. Bulletin announcements should be into the office by Wednesday morning.
- If you know of someone who would like to receive the Fledgling, please send their email to the office.

Prayer for the week
For Ascension:
Almighty God, whose blessed Son our Savior Jesus Christ ascended far above all heavens that he might fill all things: Mercifully give us faith to perceive that, according to his promise, he abides with his Church on earth, even to the end of the ages; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
For Sunday:
O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Have you had coffee/tea/hot cider with Mtr Megan? Send me an email and we'll set up Skype/Facetime and chat! It's fun (I promise) and we can still meet while we're staying safe right now.
