Considerations
After the juniors were already allowed late April, as off this week also the seniors have started training again. Everyone is closely following the logistical and hygienic rules that are implemented and there is tremendous joy amongst everybody to be able to play cricket again. Unfortunately parents and spectators are not yet allowed (maybe understandable for multisport clubs and as a generic directive, but a bit strange if you see some 20 kids who train in the corner of the ground with nobody around). We're hopeful that if the situation does not deteriorate we will see real cricket over the summer with people watching it on the boundary and/or terrace.
There is one party already making use of the terrace and that is the local ballet club. As an indoor activity they were constrained in what they could do and we (Sparta/VCC) are happy we can help them out by opening up our facilities. Something similar holds for the judo club that keeps its members fit on Monday afternoons in a corner of the ground near the Wellant college.
In this newsletter we have news about a new cricketbook on the market featuring Dutch cricket heroes, amongst which our own Tim and Tom. Furthermore we point you to the perfect opportunity to sharpen your skills as cricket umpirer or scorer by offering some online courses.
The Board is looking to extend the season, especially as September typically offers some very nice weekends to play cricket. Furthermore we have seen some 30 people helping us out on formulating a new strategy by filling out a survey on what they think VCC is and where it should go in the coming five years. We'll share next steps hopefully in June and we'll monitor to what extend it is possible to combine it with the long anitcipated and much looked forward to GMM.
Once thing became clear: many see VCC as a diverse " family" and like to be part of that. And a family you support in good and bad times, a.o. by paying the member ship fees. So far, we have been able to collect some 80% and we trust the rest will follow now soon.
The juniors have taken part in two online coaching sessions with South African cricket coach Gary Kirsten and both sessions were great appetisers for the rest of the season. We're looking to extend thes sessions for seniors as well.
Please keep using common sense and we're confident we can play some good cricket over summer. Maybe we can even stage the The Hague T20 championships that were planned for May 5 some day.
And oh, if at that time you come to the ground bear in mind it's a smoke free area!
